Join us for a special community screening of Listen to Me from Black Public Media’s AfroPoP series.
This powerful documentary follows three Black women as they navigate pregnancy, birth, and early motherhood, shedding light on urgent realities in Black maternal health.
Directed by Kanika Harris and Stephanie Etienne, Listen to Me calls for healing, accountability, and systemic change.
The evening will open with remarks from community partners working in maternal wellness and family support across DC.
After the screening, stay for a meaningful talkback and space for reflection and connection.

Recently, MOWPI and MOCCA joined WHUT-TV (We at Howard University Television) for a special evening of community, storytelling, and connection at Busboys and Poets.
Featuring the documentary A Mother Apart, the evening explored healing, forgiveness, and the many ways we create family beyond traditional boundaries.

Mayor’s Office of Community Affairs Director Lamont Carey encourages you to join MOWPI for Loving Arms: Connections for Kinship on Wednesday, July 15, at 11:30 a.m. at Capitol View Library.

This event will bring together kinship caregivers, community partners, and families for conversations, panel discussions, and resources focused on supporting those caring for DC’s at-risk and vulnerable youth. Together, we’re building stronger connections and ensuring caregivers have the tools and support they need.
