Central Union Mission, DC

Central Union Mission, DC No one should live hungry and homeless. Central Union Mission is the oldest social service agency in the District of Columbia.

We’re so grateful for our incredible young volunteers from .church who travelled all the way from Texas to serve alongside us during three meaningful mornings of shelter upkeep! Their energy, joy, and willingness to roll up their sleeves brought real encouragement to our team and care to the men we serve. We’re thankful for the ways they showed up with hearts ready to serve 🙏

Three days. Three facilities. One mission: sharing the love of Jesus!

A huge thank you to our friends from Passion City Church DC for serving across all of Central Union Mission's ministries as part of their LOVE DC campaign. From Mission: NOVA in Northern Virginia, to our Men's Shelter in downtown DC, to our Comprehensive Family Resource Center on the Maryland border, these amazing volunteers showed up with servant hearts and a passion to love their neighbors. They made a meaningful impact on the lives of those we serve. We're deeply grateful for the way they spread out across the Mission and poured out God's love in such tangible ways.

Thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus and reminding our community that they are seen, valued, and loved. ❤️

Have a blessed Sunday!

A meal can open a conversation. A conversation can change a life.

Every day at the Mission, men who have experienced homelessness, addiction, incarceration, and hardship find a shelter and services. But more than that, they find people who believe in them, walk alongside them, and point them toward lasting hope.

Transformation doesn't happen overnight. It happens through relationships, encouragement, accountability, and the love of Christ lived out day after day.

This is what men's ministry looks like. This is what restoration looks like.

Collaboration in action! 🙌

Last week, we had the opportunity to join fellow nonprofits and community partners at an Amazon Skilled Volunteering session as part of Amazon’s Global Month of Volunteering.

We want to thank the Amazon team for sharing their expertise and helping us think through practical communications solutions that will strengthen our work and impact. We’re also grateful to Taproot Foundation for connecting skilled volunteers with local nonprofits and helping organizations like ours grow stronger.

It was an energizing day filled with creativity, collaboration, and new ideas, and we left inspired by what’s possible when people come together to serve their communities.

Smiles. Laughter. Dancing. Friendship. 💃🕺

Our Senior Prom was a reminder that no one is ever too old to experience joy, connection, and community.

Seniors walked the red carpet, posed for photos, enjoyed great food, danced to their favorite songs, and crowned a Prom King and Queen. But perhaps the most meaningful part of the day was seeing friendships grow and watching people feel seen, valued, and celebrated.

At the Mission, we believe every person deserves dignity, belonging, and the opportunity to create new memories, regardless of age or circumstance.

Thank you to our supporters, volunteers, and partners for helping make days like this possible. Because of you, our seniors didn't just attend a prom, they experienced a community that cares.

Take a look at some of our favorite moments from the day!
