In November, Global Ties San Francisco hosted Mexican law enforcement officials in Oakland, CA for a U.S. Department of State: Bureau of Intl Narcotics & Law Enforcement (INL) Law Enforcement and Security Exchange Program (LESEP) on building safe communities. The group met with the National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (NICJR) and learned about its design and implementation of violence prevention strategies, programs, tools, and staff trainings. They also met with the City of Oakland’s Department of Violence Prevention to discuss public health approaches to deconfliction, violence prevention, and service delivery to high-risk populations through community-led intervention strategies.

In our last reporting year the Global Ties Network hosted 4,200+ visitors, engaged 24,000+ volunteers, and generated $81.7M for U.S. communities and economies by implementing International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) and other exchanges. Last month, we were in Mexico City with as part of the U.S. Department of State: Bureau of Intl Narcotics & Law Enforcement (INL) Law Enforcement and Security Exchange Program (LESEP). We hosted 117 Mexican internal affairs investigators from 24 states in Mexico for training on report writing and interview techniques. Participants also learned preliminary processes for conducting administrative interviews and applying a standardized methodology when documenting administrative investigations.
