On May 7, the Embassy of Brazil had the pleasure of hosting Diplomacy in Melody: Brazil and America in Concert, in partnership with the Smithsonian Institute Associates.

The event explored the musical connections between Brazil and the United States, with a special focus on bossa nova and New Orleans jazz. Georgetown University Professor Bryan McCann led the conversation, joined by Brazilian singer and poet Rose Moraes for a beautiful musical performance. She was joined by percussionist Lucas Ashby and guitarist Dani Cortázar.

We were honored to welcome Dr. Monique Chism, Under Secretary for Education at the Smithsonian Institution, as well as Timothy Anne Burnside, Music and Performing Arts Curator at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture, who moderated the discussion.

The evening was a celebration of Brazilian music, cultural exchange, and the enduring friendship between Brazil and the United States.

On April 17, the Embassy of Brazil hosted Cia. Armorial at the Official Residence. The performance offered a journey through the diversity of Brazilian musical traditions - from "choro" to "caipira" music.

It was a wonderful opportunity to share Brazilian culture and engage with friends and partners from Washington’s vibrant cultural community, with special thanks to Professor Eric Galm, of Trinity College, and Matheus Fonseca, who contributed to this special program.
