We are so grateful for our volunteers who are essential in keeping our food pantry running. Their hard work setting our food, loading bags, and guiding clients through the shopping experience is critical as we work to ensure all our neighbors have access to fresh, nutritious food.

The September SignUpGenius registration form to volunteer at our Food Pantry and Day Program is up, linked in our bio and posted on our website; we hope you will join us!

This week The Father McKenna Center was so excited to welcome our two new Jesuit Volunteers, Joanna Chen and Alie McDougall! Joanna is a graduate of Boston College from Albany, New York and will be serving for the next year as our Day Program and Volunteer Services Coordinator. Alie, a native of Steilacoom, Washington, just graduated from Loyola University Chicago is stepping into the role of the Food Pantry Coordinator.

Joanna and Alie are already wonderful additions to our team and have been hard at work checking clients into our programs, stocking the food pantry and stuffing snack packs, and connecting with all our community members. We are so grateful for their commitment to service with us and are looking forward to a wonderful year!

Twice a month, our clients are able to visit and "shop" in our Clothing Closet, choosing items that keep them comfortable in every season. From t-shirts to shorts to shoes, the generosity of our community allows us to give old items a new life and makes sure each of our neighbors feels refreshed with new clothing in the hottest months.

We were so pleased welcome the Class of 2030 yesterday for their first official visit to the Father McKenna Center as part of their Freshman Orientation. Incoming freshman heard from Dennis, our Executive Director, about the Center's mission and Sophie, our Volunteer Coordinator, about the numerous ways they can take part in it.

We wish all our student volunteers good luck as the school year begins and look forward to seeing these Eagles at the Center in the next four years!

This morning, our partner Community Bridges AZ joined us for their weekly tabling session in our Day Shelter program. Every Wednesday, Community Bridges offers Narcan and other support items to our clients while answering questions about treatment and providing a gateway to one of their "Stabilization Centers," which provide crisis care and treatment for individuals struggling with mental health and/or substance abuse issues.

Thanks to the team from Community Bridges for joining us today - we'll see you again next week!

This morning we were joined by a volunteer group from St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church of Washington DC to support our Day Program services - serving Breakfast and Lunch and helping to clean, organize, and restock storage throughout the center between the meals! Thanks to the parishioners who came out to serve and have a positive impact on the days of our clients.

We are blessed by the presence of current students and recent graduates of who support us during our daily programming. These upstanding young men serve as both staff members and volunteers, generously sharing their talents and energy with the community.

It brings us joy to have such wonderful students as part of the McKenna family. As our Executive Director, Dennis, put it, "I like to think that the McKenna Center serves as a second home for Gonzaga students.” We hope that our Gonzaga volunteers feel the same, and that the McKenna Center continues to be a place where they can build lasting skills and memories.

Thanks to generous donations from Capital Area Food Bank and the Franciscans, our food pantry has been well stocked over the past two weeks! Shoppers had access to produce like apples, potatoes, and peppers, as well as fresh bread and butter. We are grateful to our partners for helping us promote food security for the community.
