Young Elected Officials Network

Young Elected Officials Network The YEO Network works with young elected leaders around the country as they change communities and build a stronger, bolder & younger progressive movement.

The Young Elected Officials (YEO) Network, a program of People For the American Way Foundation, is the first and only national initiative to provide a network of support to the newest generation of progressive leaders at every level of elected office. Our program was founded by young elected officials and continues to be led by them. In our 10 years we have grown to a network of over 1,000, with m

embers and alumni in every state in the country. The YEO Network is a cutting-edge program investing in the pipeline of progressive leadership and building sustained relationships with our members. We provide the resources young elected officials need to effectively impact policy, foster their own development and professional growth, and elevate their voices and their leadership in the broader progressive movement. We serve to connect those working towards a progressive agenda in communities across the country. Nationwide Networking -

The YEO Network is a genuine community and support network for our members—who value the peer exchange, mentorship, and energy of being brought together with other young progressive leaders, mentors, advisors, and policy experts. Policy Support -

The YEO Network collaborates with our strategic partners to provide policy training and resources to our members year-round. In addition to policy summits and academies, we provide training at our annual National Convening, a yearly policy book, an online legislative exchange, teleconferences, newsletters, regular policy bulletins, and individualized research support. Leadership Development -

The YEO Network offers ongoing professional development in all of our programming. We provide access to high-level training—always informed by the needs of our membership—on executive leadership, good governance, and advancing to higher office. We hold workshops and webinars on everything from effective messaging to technology in constituent engagement.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen () — one of the most kindhearted and talented people in our community. She was a shining light who brought warmth, brilliance, and compassion to everyone around her.

All of us at People For the American Way and the Young Elected Officials Network are honored to have known and worked alongside Nancy. As an active alumna of our Jordan-Huerta Women’s Leadership Program and engaged member of the broader YEO network, she has left a lasting impact on the generation of leaders she leaves to finish the work she so boldly championed.

Nancy was truly one of the most beloved members of our network. To all who knew and loved her: we are holding you in our hearts and stand with you as you grieve the loss of a friend, colleague, and leader.

Please check your email for details about a space for our community to come together and grieve. We have also shared online resources, in partnership with , to support your safety, care, and well-being during this time.

We invite you to join us in honoring Nancy’s life through some of our favorite memories of her.

So thrilled to welcome the 2025 cohort of other Jordan-Huerta Women's Leadership Program to DC!

These women are *amazing*! This cohort is 82% women of color and 52% are serving in their first term. They're serving in state legislatures, as mayors, board of education members. They represent 12 states and the District of Columbia. And they're all ready to get to work for their communities!
