This House was back in session this week after August recess.

Keep watching for what you may have missed this week.

When diesel buses idle unnecessarily for long periods of time, the emissions harm our children, especially those with asthma. Unnecessary idling also wastes fuel and causes more wear and tear on engines at a time when school and municipal budgets are already strained. That’s why some states and localities have adopted restrictions on unnecessary idling.

Today, the Energy and Commerce Committee advanced a bill blocking states from enforcing school bus and motor coach engine idling restrictions over 15 minutes. I joined Energy and Commerce Committee Democrats to oppose this effort to undermine state and local government efforts to protect their communities.

I spent the August recess meeting with Virginians, health officials and providers to discuss the impact of the Big Ugly Law on access to health care.

They painted a dire picture.

I shared what I heard during this week’s Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) special order hour.

During the August recess, members of the traveled across our districts to hear from constituents and stakeholders how the policies of the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans' signature Big Ugly Law have made the cost-of-living crisis even worse as the costs of health care, groceries, energy, housing and more continue to skyrocket.

Last night, I anchored a Special Order Hour to share what we heard.

House Democrats just returned to Washington after spending five weeks talking to constituents about the cost-of-living crisis. I heard firsthand how prices have only continued to rise, and how people everywhere are feeling the effects in their wallets and across their communities.

The best Republicans can do in response? Play into culture wars with an anti-socialism resolution that’s yet another voter suppression bill in disguise.

As Chinese robotics equipment becomes more integrated into American factories, warehouses, laboratories, hospitals, classrooms and more, Congress must act now to examine the national security risks posed by advanced robotics equipment and determine whether to restrict such equipment produced by foreign adversaries.

Today the Communications and Technology subcommittee advanced my bipartisan legislation with Congressman John Moolenaar to do just that.

Did you know that in Virginia, moms can breastfeed in public anywhere that they are lawfully present?

And under state and federal law, employers must provide reasonable accommodations for new moms to pump breastmilk?

August is Breastfeeding Awareness Month, and I want to make sure moms know their rights and have the support they need to breastfeed their babies.

Virginia’s Fourth District boasts universities that keep our Commonwealth on the cutting edge of research and technological advancement.

I joined Virginia Commonwealth University leadership to present a $1,000,000 check to support the VCU College Of Engineering robotics and autonomous systems research and toured their engineering labs to see firsthand the research that funding will support.
