The WFPG’s in-depth global issues programs feature women leaders and highlight their contributions and voices. The organization also hosts leadership development activities to promote the next generation of women leaders. The WFPG partners with many foreign policy organizations and is a key player in broadening the constituency for international affairs and helping educate Americans. The WFPG brings together participants from across sectors and links them domestically and internationally.

Please join the Women's Foreign Policy Group on Wednesday, September 23rd, from 5:30 – 7:00 PM, for the next session of our WFPG Book Club! We’ll delve into "Choosing the Hero: My Improbable Journey and the Rise of Africa's First Woman President" a memoir by Washington, D.C., international lobbyist and strategist K. Riva Levinson.

With gripping anecdotes, Levinson describes her adventures working in some of the most dangerous places on earth, from Mogadishu to Baghdad. But it is her efforts on behalf of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf that form the heart of CHOOSING THE HERO. Levinson chronicles her behind-the-scenes lobbying for the exiled Sirleaf in Washington, D.C., as well as her on-the-ground work in Liberia. It took three tries for Sirleaf to finally win the presidency in 2006. Since inauguration, President Sirleaf, who won the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize, has transformed her war-ravaged country into one of the world’s post-conflict success stories.

The Women's Foreign Policy Group is delighted to share that Emma Sanderson is starting her role as our new Program Associate, supporting programming, mentorship initiatives, membership, and communications.

She holds an MA in International Relations from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), where she concentrated in Security, Strategy, and Statecraft with a regional focus on Latin America.

Previously, Emma worked in foreign policy research at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and the Institute for Global Affairs at Eurasia Group. She has also researched counterterrorism as a Marcellus Policy Fellow with the John Quincy Adams Society and received training in diplomatic tradecraft through the Washington International Diplomatic Academy. Originally from Eugene, Oregon, Emma earned her BA in International Affairs and Spanish from the University of Colorado Boulder.

The Women’s Foreign Policy Group is delighted to announce the newest member of our Board of Directors, Beth Roberts! Our Board is integral to helping WFPG execute our mission of promoting women’s leadership in international affairs.

Beth Roberts is a foreign policy, international trade, and development finance leader with nearly two decades of experience navigating complex geopolitical, regulatory, and investment environments to advance US foreign policy goals and drive growth. In her current role as Senior Manager for Global Strategic Initiatives at General Motors, Beth focuses on advancing policies that bolster GM’s supply chain resilience efforts and is based in Washington, D.C.

We are thrilled to welcome Beth to our Board and look forward to the expertise and global perspective she brings to our work advancing women’s leadership in foreign policy!
