The UK's Minister for the Americas and the Caribbean, David Rutley, MP, met with Minister for Foreign Affairs, Agriculture, Trade, and Barbuda Affairs the Hon. E.P. Chet Greene on Monday. The Ministers discussed a range of subjects including trade and the UK/CARIFORUM Economic Partnership Agreement, and the UN SIDS Summit, which is held every 10 years and will next be hosted by in Antigua and Barbuda in 2024. The UK looks forward to supporting Antigua and Barbuda on the summit.

Topic: Expansion of UWI Five Islands Campus

The plans for the expansion of the UWI Five Islands Campus are congealing. It is estimated that dormitory-capacity for 3,500 students will be a part of the programme. The planners estimate that these numbers will not be sufficient to meet student demand for housing. Private sector actors are encouraged to invest.

In January this year, The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) CEO, Mr. Sultan Al-Marshad, and Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, the Hon. Gaston A. Browne, signed an $80 million financing agreement for the expansion project of the University of the West Indies at Five Islands (UWI) in Antigua and Barbuda.

Washington, DC, March 10….Ambassador Mako Djuric and Amb. Sanders signed an abolition of visas agreement allowing nationals of Serbia and to visit and conduct business in the two countries without the need for visas. Antiguans and Barbudans can now visit 161 countries without visas and Serbians can enter Antigua and Barbuda without visas for business and tourism. Serbia and Antigua and Barbuda continue to deepen their beneficial relations.

Sir Ronald Sanders’ DCM, Joy-Dee Davis, (on my right) met today at the Antigua and Barbuda Embassy with representatives of “Every Woman” - a coalition of 2.000 organisations world wide, campaigning for a global treaty to end violence against women about which Amb. Sanders have written and spoken. Violence against women must end.
