When seconds count, training matters. When lives are on the line, readiness makes the difference!

On Oct. 14, 2026, Georgia National Guardsmen assigned to Joint Task Force–District of Columbia put their into action after responding to a shooting near Navy Yard in Washington, D.C.

Guardsmen administered lifesaving first aid to a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her upper torso, using their Tactical Combat Casualty Care training to control bleeding. They also secured the area and directed traffic until Metropolitan Police Department and D.C. Fire and EMS personnel arrived. Their swift response demonstrated the importance of being trained, prepared and ready to act when every minute matters.

Blanchard II, Commanding General of the District of Columbia National Guard, and Darren Cox, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Washington Field Office, joined WUSA9 in Washington, D.C., to discuss two upcoming career events at the D.C. Armory, Oct. 29–30, 2026.

🔹 OCT. 29 | FBI - Washington Field CAREER EXPO

The FBI will showcase approximately 2,000 employment opportunities, introducing job seekers to careers spanning special agents, intelligence analysts, forensic specialists, information technology, cybersecurity, finance, logistics, communications, administrative support and other critical mission-support fields.

Attendees can also learn about internship opportunities and experience specialized FBI demonstrations, including opportunities to explore investigative capabilities, forensic techniques and other operational specialties.

🔹 OCT. 30 | LAW ENFORCEMENT CAREER FAIR

Hosted by the D.C. National Guard, the event will bring together more than 40 federal, state and local agencies and organizations, connecting job seekers with career pathways in law enforcement, investigations, public affairs, nursing, vehicle maintenance, logistics, information technology and other public service professions.

MORE THAN RECRUITMENT. IT'S ABOUT PARTNERSHIP AND OPPORTUNITY.

Many of these agencies already serve alongside one another in support of the DC Safe and Beautiful mission. Now, that same spirit of collaboration is creating opportunities for the next generation of public servants.

MPD Statement | MPD Investigating National Guard-Involved Shooting in Southeast

The District of Columbia National Guard acknowledges the Metropolitan Police Department's (MPD) news release regarding the shooting involving National Guard personnel assigned to Joint Task Force–District of Columbia on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2026, in Southeast Washington, D.C.

Our thoughts remain with our injured Guardsman as they recover. The health, safety and well-being of our Soldiers and Airmen remain a top priority.

The incident remains under investigation by MPD's Internal Affairs Bureau and First District Detective Unit. The D.C. National Guard continues to cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities.

We recognize the seriousness of this incident and the importance of a thorough investigation. As the investigation remains ongoing, we will defer all questions regarding the circumstances of the incident to MPD. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099 or by texting 50411.
