Recent flooding in Nepal has destroyed homes, schools, and entire villages, leaving many families with only what they could carry to safety.

At least 22 schools have been damaged, including 12 that were completely destroyed. Yet even in the face of immense challenges, Nepal's communities continue to demonstrate extraordinary strength and determination.

Experienced in delivering education programming in Nepal, GCE-US member Educate the Children International shares how education plays a critical role not only in a child's future, but also in a community's ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.

Read their inspiring reflection on why investing in education today helps build safer, stronger communities for tomorrow.

On World Humanitarian Day, we honor the educators, humanitarian workers, and local partners who continue to bring learning, hope, and stability to children living through conflict and crisis.

Education is not a secondary response to emergencies. It is a lifeline that helps protect children, supports their well-being, and creates opportunities for a better future.

Today, 93 million crisis-affected children are out of school. At a time when global needs continue to grow, sustained investment in education is more important than ever.

As the Senate prepares to release its FY27 State and Foreign Operations Appropriations bill, GCE-US is calling for continued U.S. leadership on global education. We support $970 million for international basic education, including $30.4 million for Education Cannot Wait, the global fund for education in emergencies.

Every child deserves the chance to learn, no matter where they live or the challenges they face. Read our World Humanitarian Day statement and join us in advocating for education for all.

Today, on , we celebrate the young leaders who are driving positive change in their communities every day.

At CorpsAfrica, youth are not waiting for the future to make an impact. Through service, innovation, and partnership with local communities, they are helping build sustainable solutions to some of the world's most pressing challenges.

Their experiences offer valuable lessons on leadership, civic engagement, and the importance of community-led development. As we recognize the power and potential of young people today, we invite you to read this inspiring reflection from our GCE-US member, CorpsAfrica:

📚✨ In some of the world’s most remote communities, access to education is still out of reach. But organizations like United World Schools (UWS) are proving what’s possible when communities, teachers, and supporters come together with a shared vision: ending education poverty.

By building schools, training local teachers, and working hand-in-hand with communities, UWS is helping children gain the skills to read, write, and dream bigger — often for the very first time. Since its founding, the organization has reached tens of thousands of children and established hundreds of schools in places where education once felt impossible.

đź’ˇ The impact goes far beyond the classroom:

* Families gain hope for a different future
* Communities grow stronger and more resilient
* A full generation gets the chance to break the cycle of poverty

Because when a child learns, everything changes.

Education challenges look different around the world — but the drive to create equitable, inclusive learning is universal. ✨

GCE-US member Childhood Education International shares how communities are designing innovative, culturally grounded solutions that strengthen children’s learning and wellbeing. Their global insights remind us that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach, but there are lessons we can share across borders.

🌍Tomorrow is , and we’re honoring the courage and resilience of refugees around the world with a powerful reflection from GCE-US member Jesuit Refugee Service/USA on the state of education for refugee learner in South Sudan and the impact of U.S. Government funding cuts.

📚 Read how refugee children are striving to learn against the odds and how a reduction in U.S. funding is putting that progress at risk. Schools are losing teachers, classrooms are overcrowded, and essential learning spaces are being scaled back just when children need them most.
