Happy National Trails Day! Today we’d like to give a special shoutout to the volunteers of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. These dedicated volunteers help us to maintain more than 30 miles of trails in Rock Creek Park by managing erosion, clearing fallen trees, and even building bridges. Rock Creek Park’s trails bring us together through recreation, stewardship, and community.

Which trail will you hike today to celebrate National Trails Day?

From the time bicycles were invented, people have been enjoying the most energy-efficient land travel through the nation’s public lands. Biking uses less energy than walking to travel the same distance.

Rock Creek Park has seen cyclists since its founding, and there are many miles of multi-use trails and roadways for you to get your move on. In fact, if you’re a history enthusiast and an avid cycler, grab our Civil War Defenses of Washington Hiking and Biking map to plan your next, great, low-effort input, high-reward output biking adventure to the Civil War fortifications in DC.

Where is your favorite place to cycle in the park?

Four fountains. One unforgettable week. As America counts down to her 250th Anniversary, history isn’t just remembered — it’s flowing again.

This week’s ribbon cuttings at the Taras Shevchenko Memorial, General Philip Sheridan Circle, Dupont Circle and Meridian Hill Park marked a triumphant return, with fountains and statues sparkling and waters flowing once again, each one a celebration of history, community, and beauty restored.

This is President Trump’s vision in action. Through the Making DC Safe & Beautiful, we are restoring the heart of our nation’s capital and putting America on the path to having the most beautiful capital city in the world.

We couldn’t be more grateful. Thanks to the National Park Service experts for their care of our national spaces.

And here’s to the water flowing again.
