Senator Pete Ricketts

Senator Pete Ricketts Husband, father of three, 40th Governor of Nebraska, now serving as U.S. Senator for Nebraska. Senator Pete Ricketts was sworn in as Nebraska’s U.S. Trump.

Senator on January 23, 2023. Born in Nebraska City and raised in Omaha, Ricketts is the son of an entrepreneur and a school teacher. Senator Ricketts and his wife, Susanne Shore, have been married for 26 years and live in Omaha. They have three children: Roscoe, Margot, and Eleanor. Ricketts graduated from Westside High School before attending the University of Chicago where he earned his bachelor

’s degree in biology and an M.B.A. in marketing and finance. After graduate school, Ricketts returned to Omaha and worked for Union Pacific before working as a customer services representative in his family’s business, a company that would eventually become known as Ameritrade. He went on to hold leadership roles in the company including Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, Senior Vice President of Product Development, Senior Vice President of Marketing, President, and Chief Operating Officer (COO). Ricketts also founded Drakon, LLC, which supports Nebraska entrepreneurs and startup companies, and was a past board member of TD Ameritrade’s Board of Directors and the Chicago Cubs baseball team. Ricketts was sworn in as Nebraska’s 40th Governor on January 8, 2015 and reelected to a second term in November 2018. As governor, Ricketts dramatically improved services to Nebraskans, and worked with the Legislature to deliver over $12.7 billion in tax relief, including over $10 billion in property tax relief, by 2027. Additionally, he fully eliminated state taxes on veterans’ retirement income starting in 2022 and on Social Security benefits by 2025. Ricketts also reduced the rate of state spending growth, created new workforce development programming, cut unnecessary red tape to bolster Nebraska’s business-friendly climate, and expanded international markets for Nebraska’s farmers and ranchers. Thanks in part to the Governor’s leadership, Nebraska won the Governor’s Cup for the most economic development projects per capita three years in a row from 2016 to 2018. He was also appointed to serve on the Council of Governors and the Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations by President Donald J. Ricketts has also taken on leadership roles in local and state associations and organizations. He serves on the board of the Mid-America Council of the Boy Scouts, as a director of the Nebraska Game and Parks Foundation, a member of the Board of Advisors of Opportunity Education Foundation, a member of the Archbishop’s Committee for Development, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre. Senator Ricketts and his family attend St. Margaret Mary’s church.

Kawasaki has been in Lincoln for 50 years. They’re a fantastic example of manufacturing success in America.

3,000 Nebraskans earn their living here. The Working Families Tax Cuts will better support them and their families.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

As Governor, we worked to improve mental healthcare for all Nebraskans. That’s why I introduced the Improving Measurements for Loneliness and Isolation Act in the Senate. This bill works to improve care nation wide.

This month and every month, check in with friends, family and neighbors and let them know you care.

For the last 250 years, Americans have answered the call to serve and defend our great nation.

Today, we remember and honor all the brave women and men who lost their lives in service to our country.

America is the home of the free because of the brave.

Enjoyed starting my morning yesterday at the kick-off celebration for the Warrior Bike Ride across the country on the National Mall!

I had the pleasure of meeting Winston Hall, a proud Nebraskan from Elkhorn and a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran. Mr. Hall will be participating in the 75-day cross-country bikepacking trip along the Great American Rail-Trail.

Best of luck on your trip, Mr. Hall, and thank you for your service!

To celebrate National Beef Month, I introduced a bill that protects real meat. Deceptive labeling of plant-based protein products hurts American farmers and ranchers.

It also degrades consumer trust.

The FAIR Labels Act would prohibit labeling plant-based or cell-based alternatives as “meat.” That name should be reserved for the real thing–especially Nebraska beef.

Thank you, Senator Pete Ricketts, for supporting provisions in the bill recently approved by the Senate Banking Committee that will 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗿𝘆𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆‑𝗸𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗸 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗱.

The Senate Banking Committee‑approved bill protects the legislation unanimously adopted by the Nebraska Legislature last year, which requires cryptocurrency kiosks to be licensed by the state, establishes daily transaction limits, and guarantees refunds for new customers who fall victim to fraud.

Today, I called for a voice vote on the Senate floor to declare May Renewable Fuels Month. It passed.

Renewable fuels are great for consumers to help save you money at the pump. Last time I filled up with a 10% blend of ethanol, I saved 55 cents a gallon at my local grocery store. Rep. Don Bacon told me that he is saving $1 a gallon with E15.

Renewable fuels are also great for cleaning up the environment and, of course, great for our farmers and ranchers.

Renewable fuels are part of an American First Energy dominance strategy. They are great for Nebraska.
