"And since innovation is central to entrepreneurship, we are creating
new exchanges for science teachers," said Mr. Obama. "We are forging new
partnerships in which high-tech leaders from Silicon Valley will share
their expertise in venture capital, mentorships, technology incubators,
with partners in the Middle East, in Turkey and Southeast Asia."

Two-day conference opening Monday in Washington is fulfillment of a pledge Mr. Obama made last June in a speech in Cairo, Egypt to deepen U.S. engagement with Muslim-majority communities.

Delivering on a promise he made nearly a year ago, President Obama will host a two-day entrepreneurship summit beginning Monday designed to improve relations with the Muslim world.

businesses, jobs and economic opportunity follow closely behind,” Mr
Locke said in remarks that opened the Presidential Summit on
Entrepreneurship. “They improve the business climate in their own
countries and champion necessary policy reforms. And they improve
practices in global markets.”

Entrepreneurs are essential to improving ties between the US and the Muslim world, the US commerce secretary told Muslim businesspeople yesterday.

even several. But I knew we had to begin and that all of us have
responsibilities to fulfil," Obama told the Presidential Summit on
Entrepreneurship.

Speaking to the gathering Monday, Obama said the summit was motivated
by “a quest for new partnerships, not simply between government, but
between people.” And he gave two reasons for the focus on
entrepreneurship: first, “because you told us this was an area where we
could learn from each other”; and second, “because throughout history,
the market has been the most powerful force… for opportunity.”

Entrepreneurs from more than 50 mostly Muslim-majority countries are gathering at the summit on entrepreneurship in Washington to learn more about how individual action can expand opportunity in the Muslim world and beyond.
