Safety is our number one priority for the Point-in-Time Count - both for our volunteers and individuals staying outside. We have postponed the 2026 PIT Count to next Wednesday, 2/4. This change allows outreach teams to focus on getting individuals inside and out of the dangerous temperatures and ensure safer conditions for volunteers to navigate streets on the night of PIT.

The Community Partnership collaborated with the Urban Institute on new research that finds an estimated 12 percent of DC residents experience housing insecurity.

Black residents experience insecurity at a higher rate than any other racial group, with Black residents ages 15 and older making up an estimated 68 percent of the housing-insecure population. Additionally, 42 percent of those experiencing housing insecurity live in Wards 7 and 8.

The researchers find that services designed to address housing insecurity should be targeted in a way that better reaches disproportionately affected groups, including Black and Hispanic residents, households with children, and residents in Wards 7 and 8.

District leaders and other community members broke ground Wednesday on an affordable housing project in northwest D.C.

DHS Service Centers are open Monday-Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:45 PM.

The Fort Davis Service Center is currently closed for renovations; however, the Anacostia, Congress Heights, H Street and Taylor Street Service Centers are open and DHS staff are available to assist District residents with the cash, food and health benefits needs.
