***CONGRESSMAN MASSIE CUT OFF AT OLDHAM CO. GOP DINNER***

At the Oldham County Republican Party’s Lincoln Day Dinner on Feb 6, Rep. Thomas Massie (KY-4) was speaking to the crowd about working for the people—not party leadership—when KY House Speaker David Osborne abruptly grabbed his mic from the podium! Massie had slightly exceeded his 5-minute time limit (plus a courtesy minute), sparking walkouts, viral videos, and instant backlash.
This plays out amid Massie’s high-stakes primary challenge backed by President Trump, with rival Ed Gallrein also timed on stage. Oldham GOP Chair Blaine Anderson insists it was strictly about timing, not content—but Massie later joined supporters for drinks, pointing to tensions over his independent positions.
Massie was instrumental in the passage of the Epstein Files Transparency Act and now faces a Trump-backed primary opponent with significant financial backing.

Donald Trump ran on putting America First but has shown time and time again that he will do everything in his power to prioritize the interests of his billionaire friends. Sending billions to Israel and Argentina while our roads crumble isn’t “America First”—as your next Senator I will stand up for Appalachian interests and fight against wasteful government spending.

***SNOW ALERT***

As we go into this week we can expect another round of a snow, with accumulations ranging from 1-3in at lower elevations to as much as 15in in Central WV.

“This week we are expected to get another round of snow before a cold snap this weekend that is set to have lows in the single digits or even lower at higher elevations. These conditions are especially difficult for the many people in our communities struggling to pay monthly utilities. If you’d like to help our communities directly consider donating to BlueJay Rising during our winter fundraising drive—funds will be used to help supply winter clothing, warming layers, and food aid.”- Shrewsbury for U.S Senate

***NEWLY FORMED POLITICAL PARTY ANNOUCES CANIDATES IN LEXINGTON***

The newly formed Kentucky Party (KYP) have announced their first candidates…

Amanda Settell is running for magistrate in Fayette County’s third district.

John Settell is running for the Soil and Water Conservation Board of Fayette County.

The Appalachian Times and Appalachia First encourage our followers to especially consider Kentucky Party candidates in local elections. While Fayette County is not directly Appalachian many of our followers are centered in the area and we recognize the importance of this area in the context of state level politics. Fayette County can be considered a part of the Greater Appalachian region due to its influence.

The following is an opinion and does not necessarily reflect the views of The Appalachian Times as an organization:

If you supported Trump in this last election do you support him after he has attacked Thomas Massie, Rand Paul, Tucker Carlson, Marjorie Taylor Greene and others in his coalition? Perhaps more pressing is his foreign policy positions—continued funding for Ukraine, Israel, and even a new 40B for Argentina. His support for importing foreign beef instead of supporting American farmers.

Or perhaps domestic policy is a concern with the continued issuance of H1-B visas, especially for Big Tech, while highly skilled American workers are underemployed. Maybe, the fact he and his legislature passed the 2026 appropriations bill with an amendment destroying the h**p industry—putting even more farmers at risk. Maybe the fact he and his Congress heavily cut SNAP, which, disproportionately impacted/continues to impact Appalachia.

And if these didn’t throw you off, this is without mentioning the Epstein controversy which Trump has handled either incredibly incompetently or—more likely, handled a bizarre due to his connections to Epstein. The administration has switched their position on the Epstein Files several times and in the beginning release files that were public record while saying they were actually releasing everything.

So, do you still support him?

Anyone working this hard to prevent the release of the doesn’t exactly look innocent.

Consider this post a petition for KY Rep. Thomas Massie to run for President in 2028! Like, share, and comment to show your support!
Massie has spearheaded the push to release the unredacted Epstein files despite overwhelming pressure from elites on both sides. While GOP elites attack him for his fiscal conservatism, focus on the Epstein coverup, and advocacy for small government he has remained steadfast. He is also one of only a few GOP representatives to not be bankrolled by AIPAC.
Fun fact: JD Vance was raised in Middletown, Ohio—a city that is definitively not Appalachian. Thomas Massie, however, was born and raised in Huntington, West Virginia. Massie is one of the few congressmen with a backbone and just so happens to be an Appalachian himself.
While we have plenty of ideological differences with Massie he is certainly a preferential candidate when it comes to the GOP. Massie and Rand represent what the GOP claims to be. Whenever you vote, consider this: Who will put Appalachia First?
