🌍While the value changed, the methodology did not. It continues to identify people living in absolute monetary poverty by the standards of the world’s poorest countries—just as it has since 1990. 🌍
The international poverty line was set at $3.0/day in 2021 PPP, previously at $2.15/day 2017 PPP, and updated from $1.9/day 2011 PPP in 2022. Similar lines are defined reflecting the standards of the lower-middle and upper-middle income countries.

💡 Why was the international poverty line updated?
The international poverty line is periodically revised to reflect global price changes and better data on the cost of basic needs—like food, clothing, and shelter—in low-income countries. 📈 While the value changed, the methodology did not.
