Ensuring Informed Voting for the West Shore School District School Board Race
At Newberry Township Citizenship for Reform, we stand firmly committed to the belief that our local schools play a critical role in shaping our community's future. We understand that well-run schools are the cornerstone of a thriving society, and we believe that every citizen deserves access to accurate and unbiased information before they cast their vote. With the upcoming election on November 7th, we feel it is our duty to ensure that the voters in the West Shore School District are well-informed and not misled by misinformation or misconceptions.
We feel it is vital to provide voters in the West Shore School District with accurate information and dispel any misconceptions surrounding the Friends of West Shore School District Political Action Committee (PAC). This PAC, registered with York County, has claimed to be bipartisan, but we believe it's important to present the facts.
Bi-Partisanship or a Different Agenda?
The Friends of West Shore School District PAC states that it is bipartisan, yet the affiliations of many of the candidates they support tell a different story. Most of their endorsed candidates are either cross-filed for both parties or are on the Democratic ticket. A few have switched parties for this election due to the historically conservative voting patterns in the area (Kaparanos). Moreover, some registered Republicans vote consistently with the current school board (Moyer), which has been leaning towards a liberal stance on issues. This raises questions about the authenticity of their bipartisan claims.
Financial Allegiances
The financial contributions received by this PAC further raise questions about its bipartisan nature. It has accepted donations from entities like the Northern York Democratic Club ($500), the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA)($2000 +mailers), and a PAC known as The Six PAC ($3000). Notably, there are no donations from conservative groups at the time of this post. This financial information casts doubt on the PAC's bipartisan claims.
ActBlue and Partisanship
Furthermore, the PAC is collecting funds through ActBlue, a well-known Democratic fundraising tool. ActBlue explicitly states its alignment with the Democratic Party on its website, leaving room for skepticism regarding the Friends of West Shore School District PAC's bipartisanship claims(https://secure.actblue.com/about).
Intriguing Connections
It's worth noting that The Six PAC (https://www.thesixpac.com/about), which has supported this local school board race, is a progressive Democratic PAC from California. This affiliation raises questions about whether they would support genuinely bipartisan candidates. This, in turn, prompts us to question why the Friends of West Shore School District PAC would accept money from such an entity and others if they were truly bipartisan.
Partisan Promotion
PSEA has financially supported Friends of West Shore School District candidates, actively urging Democrats to vote for them through targeted mailers. This partisan promotion did not extend to Republicans within the West Shore School District, undermining claims of bipartisanship. Additionally, there have been reports that teachers were encouraged through various means to support these candidates due to their perceived alignment with the interests of educators and students and that other candidates are not good for students and BAD for teachers.
Leadership's Affiliations
***Edit***
The wording of our original post appears to not be accurate in that The Friends of West Shore School District PAC is not run by Danielle Gross, but she is an admin for their page. We are sorry for this inaccuracy and stand corrected. This does raise another question. Who really runs this PAC?
