I am running for ANC to improve road safety, housing affordability, and reduce dependency on cars.
There's no easy way to put it - DC's Vision Zero (of zero traffic deaths by 2024) has been a failure. My wife and I (and many of our friends) primarily get around the city by walking and biking, and I worry about the day that one of us becomes yet another statistic - or another symbol - of inaction from the leaders of our city.
These are all choices to prioritize drivers over alternative modes of transportation. We can and must do better. If elected, I will focus on implementing more protected bike lanes, a dedicated bus lane on Georgia Avenue, and traffic calming measures to make it physically difficult for cars to speed. I will also advocate to the council that we implement actual consequences for drivers who consistently create safety issues.
Beyond traffic safety, I am an advocate for deeply affordable housing - inclusionary zoning citywide will not produce enough housing for the residents who need it most. I will advocate for developments to include at least 30% of units that are affordable.
