Last weekend, I held two SidewalkPalooza events, and we submitted over 70 requests to DC to improve the accessibility of our area (see map below). These requests covered making sidewalks more accessible, repainting crosswalks, fixing tree boxes, and some rat investigations. If elected, I'll advocate for these changes to be implemented and make our city safer and more accessible!

I'm quoted in this Washington Post article!

"Our roads are not properly designed to keep speeds at or below the speed limit,” said Josh Jacobson, a Pleasant Plains resident running for an Advisory Neighborhood Commission seat in Ward 1 on a platform that calls for safer roads. “We need to add physical infrastructure to make it harder to speed and endanger our children — more raised and high-visibility crosswalks, more bollards, and reductions in lane width will slow down cars and save lives.”

The new speed limit go into effect at Connecticut Avenue NW and New York Avenue NE.

I am running for ANC to improve road safety, housing affordability, and reduce dependency on cars.

There's no easy way to put it - DC's Vision Zero (of zero traffic deaths by 2024) has been a failure. My wife and I (and many of our friends) primarily get around the city by walking and biking, and I worry about the day that one of us becomes yet another statistic - or another symbol - of inaction from the leaders of our city.

These are all choices to prioritize drivers over alternative modes of transportation. We can and must do better. If elected, I will focus on implementing more protected bike lanes, a dedicated bus lane on Georgia Avenue, and traffic calming measures to make it physically difficult for cars to speed. I will also advocate to the council that we implement actual consequences for drivers who consistently create safety issues.

Beyond traffic safety, I am an advocate for deeply affordable housing - inclusionary zoning citywide will not produce enough housing for the residents who need it most. I will advocate for developments to include at least 30% of units that are affordable.
