S.R. 77 FDOT is widening approximately 20 miles of roadway from two to four lanes along State Road 77. The estimated completion date for the project is fall 2025.

In an effort to reduce congestion, improve safety, create jobs and move people, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is initiating widening and construction improvement along the S.R. 77 corridor in Washington County, Florida. Construction activities on S.R. 77 from the Bay County Line to north of Blue Lake Road began in October 2015. No detours are planned during construction, though m

otorists may experience minor travel delays and are advised to plan accordingly. Planned improvements of the $87 million project include widening the roadway from two lanes to four lanes; drainage improvements; safety upgrades; and new signage and pavement markings. Further north, FDOT began a $56 million construction project to widen a 3.5 mile segment of State Road (S.R.) 77, from Rogers Road to Cane Mill Road, in Wausau. The project is aimed at increasing capacity on S.R. 77 from two to four travel lanes, along with improving safety and enhancing mobility. During construction, drivers will periodically encounter temporary lane closures. These lane closures will occur during both day and nighttime hours. At least one travel lane will remain open at all times. The project is anticipated to be completed in early 2027. Drivers should be alert for the presence of construction worker and equipment entering and exiting the roadway. General Inquiries:

Crews recently placed girders for the northbound bridge on the S.R. 77 Widening Project in Wausau, marking a major milestone in construction. Girders are the large structural beams that support the bridge deck and ultimately carry traffic loads across the structure.

The process takes careful planning and precision. Each girder is delivered to the site, lifted into place using heavy equipment, and carefully aligned on the bridge supports. Once installed, crews secure and connect the girders before moving on to the next phases, including deck work, reinforcing steel, and concrete placement.

This work is part of the $56 million S.R. 77 widening project that is scheduled for completion in early 2028.

Motorcycles are part of everyday traffic, but they can be easy to miss without a second look.

Simple habits like checking blind spots, staying focused, and allowing extra space can reduce the risk of serious crashes.

As more riders take to the road this time of year, awareness from drivers plays an important role in keeping everyone moving safely.

A little extra attention goes a long way.
