Summer water fun is great, but there are hidden risks in the water.
Pool chemicals can burn eyes and skin and make it hard to breathe if they are not used safely. Germs in pools and splash pads can cause diarrhea, rashes, and ear infections.
Simple steps for parents:
• Keep kids out of the water if they have diarrhea.
• Remind them not to swallow pool or splash pad water.
• Shower kids before they swim and change swim diapers often in the bathroom.
• Never let kids touch pool chemicals, and keep chemicals locked up and in their original containers.
A few smart steps can help keep pool time safe and healthy. For questions or concerns, you can call Waseca County Public Health at 507-835-0685.
