What a Memorial Day!
Yesterday was one for the books, and we wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who helped make Wasco’s Memorial Day celebration such a success.
We started the day honoring those who served with the Memorial Service, prayer, and Taps, then spent the rest of the day celebrating community together.
A huge thank you to the Last Regiment of Syncopated Drummers for making their first appearance in Wasco and bringing an immense amount of energy to the parade and performances throughout the day. We have had people stopping by City Hall all day, sharing how much they enjoyed the event and how excited they were to see the drummers. We hope you enjoyed visiting our community as much as we enjoyed having you.
Thank you as well to Joe Burgess for opening the day with prayer, and to Joe Dabulskis for announcing parade participants and helping keep the event moving throughout the day.
Thank you to everyone who entered vehicles in the car show, donated baked goods to the pastry auction, purchased raffle tickets, volunteered, participated in the parade, supported vendors, and came out to spend the day with us.
Special recognition also goes to the people who helped make the day happen behind the scenes: Brittany Dark and the Oregon Frontier Chamber of Commerce, including helping connect us with the Last Regiment of Syncopated Drummers; Jessica Richelderfer Wheeler and Ian Melzer for coordinating and supporting operations through the Wasco School Events Center; City Mayor Beth McCurdy; and Eric Akin for their leadership and support throughout the event.
Congratulations to all of our car show, pastry auction, and raffle winners, and an extra congratulations to Ian Melzer for taking home the raffle grand prize.
Events like this happen because people volunteer, plan, donate, organize, participate, and show up.
Thank you for helping make Memorial Day in Wasco such a remarkable day. We look forward to doing it again next year.
