National Ems Week
May 18th to May 24th
"We Care. For Everyone"
In 1974 President Gerald Ford signed the bill that made the 3rd week of May EMS
Week. President Ford personally wanted to acknowledge and celebrate EMS practitioners and the important work they do in our nation's communities.
As Ems professionals "We Care For Everyone" in our community. 24/7 the dedication and lifesaving skills are put to the test of your local EMS. Whether it's a victim of a motor vehicle accident, stabilizing a person experiencing chest pain, treating an overdose, helping a patient who fell or the elderly patient who forgot to take critical medications your local EMS answers the call. EMS is here for the community whenever wherever they need us. Just as the theme for EMS week 2025 states " We Care For Everyone"
Warwick Volunteer Ambulance would like to invite the community to an Open House at Warwick Ambulance Station 1, 146 South Street Ext. to help kick off this week on Saturday, May 17th 10am to 1pm. Stop in and enjoy a bagel, muffin or a hot dog with Town of Warwick EMS Rockstars. There will be CPR / First Aid Demonstrations, Tours of the ambulance bay, Touch an Ambulance, Cool stuff for kids and a few additional special guests.
The Warwick Volunteer Ambulance Corps (WVAC) will be celebrating National EMS week all week long. Members will be visiting local elementary schools with a variety of activities designed to educate and raise awareness for the role and emergency medical services in the community. Members will talk about emergency first aid, how to contact 911 in an emergency, and giving ambulance tours.
Founded in 1942, WAC is the second oldest EMS corps in the State of New York. The Warwick Volunteer Ambulance Service has served our community for more than 80 years. Members answer calls 24/7, 365 days. WVAC is a volunteer agency that most recently expanded and added a weekday paid staff to help better serve Warwick and local neighboring towns.
WAC is always in attendance at all the community events such as parades, Warwick High School football games, Fire Department Carnival, Applefest, 5-K races, touch-a-truck, National Night Out, and many other community events. They provide assistance for Warwick Fire Department calls as well as support our neighboring ambulance corps for mutual aid.
The agency offers a free monthly blood pressure clinic on the first Saturday of each month as well monthly training classes in both CPR and First Aid. Warwick Ambulance Corp. has a loan closet free of charge that has many items such as wheelchairs, crutches and other items that can be loaned out to the community. With the growth of our towns and the tremendous increase in call requests, we are looking for new members to join our team. No prior experience is required and we provide all the necessary training and equipment. Stop in on May 17th during the open house for more information or visit our Website Warwickems.com
The corps would like to thank the residents of the Town of Warwick, Village of Warwick and the Village of Florida for their exceptionally generous support.
Please take time to thank your local Ems volunteers during this week.
