Warmer weather means more motorcycles on the roads. We’re teaming up with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office to remind everyone to stay alert. Check out this video that shows just how easily a motorcycle can be missed at an intersection. Let’s all do our part to share the road safely this season.

Congratulations to Officers Sarah Posey and Wesley King!

Both officers recently completed the Tennessee Highway Safety Office's ARIDE (Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement) training, a rigorous course that sharpens an officer's ability to detect and evaluate drivers impaired by alcohol, drugs, or a combination of both.

With the rise in drug-impaired driving across Tennessee, officers can no longer rely on the smell of alcohol alone to identify impairment. This training enhances their ability to recognize the signs, document them properly, and ultimately get impaired drivers off our roads before tragedy strikes.

Every impaired driver removed from the highway is a life potentially saved, a son, daughter, parent, or neighbor who makes it home safely.

A sincere thank you to the Tennessee Highway Safety Office for sponsoring this training and for their continued investment in equipping Tennessee's law enforcement officers with the skills and knowledge needed to keep our communities safe. Your partnership makes a real difference in small departments like ours.

We're proud of Officers Posey and King for their commitment to professional growth and to the safety of the citizens of Wartburg.

Distracted driving crashes in Tennessee dropped slightly last year, from 12,153 crashes in 2024 down to 12,050 crashes in 2025. This continues the reduction in distracted driving crashes from 2023-2024! Stay informed and help us continue to keep Tennessee safe by paying attention to the road.

Today, the Wartburg Police Department was honored to participate in a powerful and impactful mock crash event at Wartburg High School.

Students from area high schools gathered to witness a realistic simulation designed to educate young drivers about the very real dangers of drinking and driving, distracted driving, and texting behind the wheel. The scenario portrayed prom night students making the tragic decision to consume alcohol before driving, resulting in a serious crash with multiple victims.

This event would not have been possible without the incredible collaboration of our local fire departments, rescue squad, law enforcement agencies, and state partners. We were also grateful to have LIFESTAR on scene, demonstrating the critical role of air medical transport in life-threatening situations.

Following the simulation, students attended a presentation inside the school, where Blake McMeans shared a heartfelt message about the consequences of impaired and distracted driving.

This was a meaningful and eye-opening experience for everyone involved. Our hope is that it leaves a lasting impression and encourages our young drivers to make safe, responsible choices—especially during prom season.

We would like to thank the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) for helping sponsor important events like this this, as well as all agencies and individuals who contributed their time and effort.

Stay safe, Morgan County
