Hey Attica Central School District! We are excited to announce a new School Resource Officer has been assigned to your school starting this year!

Meet Deputy Katie West, a 2002 graduate of Attica School! Deputy West brings much experience to the school, which will help her keep you safe in many ways. In 2006, Deputy West earned a BAS in Criminal Justice from Hilbert College. From 2006-2007, she served as a Juvenile Probation Officer, and she went on to graduate from the Rural Police Training Academy in 2009. Deputy West spent time serving with Perry PD and Arcade PD, until 2010 when she began her career with us at the Wyoming County Sheriff's Office. Throughout her career, Deputy West served on the evening shift and midnight shift, and most recently served in the Court Security Division. Deputy West is also a Field Training Officer and a Car Seat Technician.

You might be wondering, what happened to Deputy Sam West? Sam has chosen to further his career in Court Security and plans to transfer to NYS Unified Court System as a Court Security Officer at the end of this year. He will be back to visit from time to time, as he will continue this fall to serve at your school as the DARE Instructor. We thank Sam for his years of dedicated service to Attica Central School District.

Congratulations to Deputy Katie West on her new assignment. We are proud to continue our partnership with Attica Central School District!

FAIR RECAP

It was a great year at the Wyoming County Fair - Pike, NY! We enjoyed seeing so many people visit the fairgrounds, and it was encouraging to see so many businesses participating and promoting their services that make Wyoming County great. Seeing the youth from our community display their talents and showcase their animals is a testament to how great our future really is.

Thank you to everyone who stopped to visit with our deputies, who stopped by our Fair Office, and who stopped to visit our partners at the Wyoming County Sheriff's Mounted Unit! It is an honor to serve you all, and we look forward to seeing you again next year at the Fair!

Deputy Thomas and Deputy Sampson joined the Arcade & Attica Railroad Corporation this weekend for their Safety Paw-Trol Express event. Deputies interacted with about 50 kids who also enjoyed face painting, food, and even got to meet their favorite Fire and Police Dog Characters. Thank you Arcade & Attica Railroad Corporation for the invite!

Last week, the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post spent two days at the Wyoming County Fire Training Center for their Annual Summer Explorer Academy.

Throughout the academy, Sheriff Explorers trained alongside Sheriff’s Office deputies and received hands-on instruction in a variety of law enforcement topics, including traffic stops, officer safety, firearm safety, subject control and handcuffing, active threat response, report writing, traffic crash investigations, and Sheriff’s Office drone (UAS) operations. The academy provided these young men and women with a firsthand look at the professionalism, teamwork, and dedication required to serve in law enforcement.

A special thank you to the Perry Fire Department for partnering with us and providing an outstanding vehicle extrication demonstration. Sheriff Explorers had the opportunity to learn about rescue operations and even gained hands-on experience using hydraulic rescue tools, commonly known as the “Jaws of Life”.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Dave’s Dogs of Perry for generously providing lunch for our Sheriff Explorers and staff throughout the event. Thank you as well to Eddy’s Collision for supplying vehicles used during our training exercises. Community partnerships like these provide our Explorers with realistic, hands-on learning opportunities and help make this academy possible.

Finally, thank you to all of our deputies, firefighters, volunteers, and community partners who dedicated their time to making this event a success. Most importantly, thank you to our Sheriff Explorers for their enthusiasm, professionalism, and willingness to learn throughout the two-day academy. We are proud of each of you and look forward to watching you continue to grow as the next generation of public safety professionals.
