⚠️ Beach Closure Update – Harry S. Truman Dam & Reservoir

Due to recent rainfall and rising lake levels, Thibaut Point Beach and Long Shoal Beach are closed effective this morning.

As of 8:00 a.m. today, Truman Lake is at 713.52 feet, which is above the elevation threshold for safe beach operations. Both beaches will remain closed until lake levels recede and Truman Lake drops below elevation 713.0 feet.

Currently, for USACE Shawnee Bend Beach is the only designated swim beach open at Truman Lake. May check with State Park in regard to their facilities.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we prioritize visitor safety. Check back here for the latest recreation area updates and beach status information.

The Harry S. Truman Dam & Reservoir, Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, would like to provide an update regarding our ongoing office consolidation efforts and future operational planning.

First, these consolidation efforts do not include the Harry S. Truman Visitor Center. Our ranger staff and contracting officers have been relocated to our maintenance compound as part of these efforts over the last year.

Moving forward, USACE acknowledges the public’s interest in expanding the visitor centers' operating days and extending seasonal availability. In support of this objective, relocating the project office to the Truman Visitor Center grounds is an alternative that is being evaluated, which would enhance the ability to serve visitors more effectively. While this transition may require some time, it represents the course of action actively being pursued.

As a reminder, our current seasonal operating hours for the Truman Visitor Center remain in effect from April 15th to September 30th. During this period, the visitor center is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, as well as on federal holidays.

For additional information, general questions or if you are interested in volunteering, please contact the Harry S. Truman Project Office at 660-438-7317.

We’ve received a lot of questions about beach access around Harry S. Truman Dam & Reservoir for the upcoming weekend, and again we hear you!

Due to standard water testing results and receding lake elevation, some conditions have changed at our designated swim beaches.

Shawnee Bend Beach: Open
Thibaut Point Beach: Open
Long Shoal Beach: Open
Bucksaw Beach: Closed due to failed standard water sample testing (high E. coli levels).

We know these changing conditions can be frustrating, especially as summer heats up, and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding.

We’ll also continue posting local updates here on Facebook as conditions change. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe and informed!
