A week ago, Rappahannock River Valley NWR had the opportunity to participate in several events, one of which was the Osprey Festival held in Colonial Beach❗

It was an amazing gathering where visitors were able to come learn about various organizations and their missions, participate in activities for kids, and just connect with one another and enjoy!😊

🔥This 5-acre field at James River National Wildlife Refuge was burned a couple of weeks ago! These are the before and after results!! 🔥

Prescribed burns can have many benefits, such as soil rejuvenation, increased water availability, decreased tree competition, increased plant diversity, improved wildlife habitat, and so much more!! 🍂💦🐿️🌳🥾🌱

In this particular scenario, the goal was to aid with the transition from the area of land being loblolly pine dominant to longleaf pine dominant. This process will take time, but burns like this are a small part of the beautiful long-term growth❗❗❗
