49 years ago today on May 28, 1977 the Beverly Hills Supper Club Fire occured in Southgate, KY.
The Beverly Hills Supper Club Fire in Southgate, Kentucky killed 165 people and injured more than 200. It is the third deadliest nightclub fire in U.S. history. On the night of the fire, the building was over capacity with patrons filling the Cabaret Room to see Hollywood actor and singer, John Davidson. Employees discovered a fire in the Zebra Room and upon opening the doors to the room unintentionally provided oxygen allowing the smoldering blaze to flash over.
Due to there being two multiple alarm fires in Northern Kentucky that night : The Duro Bag fire in Ludlow and The Beverly Hills Supper Club in Southgate, Warsaw firefighters were called to backfill Covington Company 1. Warsaw firefighters loaded up in Engine 3 and headed North. When Engine 3 and crew arrived at Company 1 they were dispatched to the Supper Club to assist in firefighting and rescue efforts.
Fire and building codes changed immensely after this fire. While in a place of assembly or any commercial building, look for secondary ways out.
