Forecast confidence is increasing that our area could see multiple rounds of thunderstorms on Wednesday, with the greatest concern during the afternoon and evening hours.

The National Weather Service reports that conditions may support fast-moving severe storms capable of damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes, especially near and south of a warm front whose exact location remains uncertain.

In addition to the severe weather threat, all of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana are at risk for torrential rainfall and flash flooding. Rainfall rates could exceed 2 inches per hour in the heaviest storms.

What you can do now:
• Review your severe weather safety plan.
• Make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
• Charge mobile devices and portable battery packs.
• Avoid driving through flooded roadways. Turn Around, Don't Drown.
• Stay tuned for forecast updates as details become clearer.

At this time, the highest risk for severe weather is expected between 2:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, though storms may occur at other times throughout the day.

Community Notice: Planned FBI Training at Hubble Middle School Tomorrow June 16

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will conduct a planned training at Hubble Middle School on Tuesday, June 16, from approximately 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This training will include the use of two blackhawk helicopters.

This is a planned FBI training exercise. There is no emergency and no active threat to the school or community.

We ask the community to please avoid the area during that time to ensure public safety and to provide the FBI with the space they need to conduct the training.

Community Unit School District 200 and the City of Warrenville are proud to partner with local law enforcement to allow them to utilize Hubble Middle School to conduct critical safety and response training. Conducting these realistic exercises ensures that our first responders are exceptionally prepared to keep our community safe.

Congratulations to Sergeant Downey on graduating from the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command on June 12.

Chief Bonilla and Deputy Chief Jacobson attended the graduation ceremony in Elmhurst to celebrate this achievement.

The School of Police Staff and Command is an intensive leadership and management education program for senior law enforcement personnel. Sergeant Downey began the program in February, attending classes on a two-weeks-on, two-weeks-off schedule while continuing his duties with the Warrenville Police Department.

Coursework covered a wide range of topics, including critical incident management, communications and media relations, strategic planning, and policy development.

Please join us in congratulating Sergeant Downey on this accomplishment and his continued commitment to professional development and public service.

Hot weather and bike rides often go hand in hand, but high temperatures can create additional risks.

Before heading out, remember these summer cycling safety tips:

• Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated
• Take breaks when needed
• Wear sunscreen to protect your skin
• Bring any necessary snacks or medications
• Make sure your phone is charged in case you need assistance

If you're biking during the current stretch of hot and humid weather, consider riding during the cooler morning or evening hours and watch for signs of heat-related illness.
