đ¨Flying a drone near or over a wildfire is ILLEGAL. Donât do it.
đ¨Firefighting aircraft that respond to wildfires fly low in support of ground personnel. Drones can pose a serious threat to pilot and public safety. A drone that disrupts air operations also puts firefighters, residents and property at risk of loss to wildfire.
Oftentimes, media outlets, other first responders and private landowners deploy drones near or over wildfires. It isnât ok. Itâs dangerous ⌠until itâs deadly. Don't do it.
On Jan. 9, a DJI drone collided with a Super Scooper actively fighting the Pacific Palisades Fire in Los Angeles. While no one was harmed, the collision grounded the aircraft at a time when it was needed most.
Today, March 2, a drone was seen in airspace above two wildfires in eastern NC. If a drone is there, firefighting aircraft canât be.
