This organization existed in 2012. It has been defunct for years. Thank you for your interest. One day, Facebook will bother to mothball this page by simply deleting it (as requested over a year ago). Don't forget that despite our best efforts before the General Assembly in Richmond: STOP VOTER SUPPRESSION. Speak truth to "power" because YOU, The People, are truly the POWER. Action always.

The Dept of Justice is taking South Carolina to court over their Voter Supprression bills: "...last week, the South Carolina State Elections Commission returned from its perilous mission to find zombie voters and – surprise! – did not find any..."

Surprise, surprise: It looks as though no dead people voted in South Carolina.

More examples of Voter Suppression happening in other GOP-dominated states. Closing down polling areas to save money. The fact that they serve Blacks and Latinos is just a coincidence.

Black officials condemn closing of polling places in Omaha.

The changes made to HB 9 by the Senate were rejected by the House, so this bill and the Senate version, SB 1 will now go to joint Conference Committee. PVV will continue to recommend a Nay vote on ANY version of these bills, but hopes the onerous requirement of asking voters to return after the election with proof of identity will be dropped from the final bill.

We are not certain how much floor discussion there will be on Voter ID bills SB 1 and HB 9; House GOP leadership may simply decide to ask for a Conference Committee to put together a final bill, after rejecting the Senate's changes to HB 9 -- or they may decide to accept Senate changes to their bill. But if you want to listen to the debate, you may do it here, starting at noon today.

When the House is not in session, there is no video broadcast. To enable the most effective streaming experience for all desktop browsersand operating systems, the video stream is delivered using both the Microsoft Silverlight and Adobe Flash Player plugins.

Great job, Virginia Progressive Caucus!

Great job, Virginia Progressive Caucus!

RICHMOND Members of the General Assembly’s Progressive Caucus took aim today at nearly $500 million in what they called “loopholes and giveaways” in the House of Delegates’ proposed 2012-14 state budget.

Today in the Virginia House, both versions of the Voter ID bill will be on the floor. In spite of some amendments, both SB 1 and HB 9 will take our Commonwealth backward and will make it harder for voters, including the elderly, students, minorities and the urban and rural poor. The AARP, conservation and progressive, Labor and minority groups and the League of Women Voters oppose these bills. Contact your Delegate!

Get Involved!Find out who your representatives are and what they stand for, read the newspaper, volunteer in your community, be aware of issues and how they affect you; realize that you can initiate change and remember that every vote counts. Your vote and your voice can always make a difference!

Union leader Richard Trumka just came out with enthusiastic support of this March against Voter Suppression (and of immigrant rights!) PoliticsNation. Thank you, sir! PVV will post the video as soon as possible.

Rev. Al Sharpton, says that from March 4-9, NAN and activists will lead a march from Selma to Montgomery to lead the fight to protect civil and voter rights.

Senator Mamie Locke is giving a GREAT floor speech against the many Voter Suppression Bills that have been brought up this session! We will post video of this later but wish to thank the Senator, who is the Chair of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus for her wonderful words now!

HB 63 passed in the Senate, 21-20 -- with the Lt. Gov breaking the tie. The VA GOP wants Provisional Ballots to be counted as secretly as possible now that they are making more and more Virginians vote by Provisional Ballots in their upcoming Voter ID bills (SB 1 and HB 9).

02/28/2012

Today, we expect that SB 1, the Senate Voter ID bill will pass in the GOP-dominated House. Since each House changed the other's Voter ID bill version to before passing them, a, Conference Committee of members from both Houses will be formed to hammer out differences between the two bills and present a unified version to be give a final voted in both chambers. So, please keep contacting your legislators and the Governor to defeat Voter Suppression! http://legis.virginia.gov/1_cit_guide/contacting_my.html
