A WONDERFUL FRIDAY EVENING ON MAIN STREET

The June 2 Warrenton First Friday opened under sunny skies, with temperatures near 90 and a welcome breeze—perfect weather for a lively evening on Main Street. As always, our committee had a strong presence, sharing the friendly face of the county Republican Party while offering voter information and engaging with the community. Our red balloons, mini-flags, hand fans, and other giveaways delighted children and parents alike and helped spark many warm conversations.

A special highlight was having Republican candidate for the U.S. 10th Congressional District, Dave Beckwith, with us for most of the evening, giving him a great opportunity to meet voters across the community. Throughout the event, we shared information about the upcoming primary, promoted our candidates and values, and invited people to connect with our committee. Our merchandise was also a success, especially the new USA 250th Birthday T-shirt and ball caps, with sales totaling nearly $400 to support future efforts. Many thanks to the 12 stalwarts who made our participation such a success, and to the Fauquier and neighboring county residents who took time to visit with us.

Today marks the 82nd anniversary of the D-Day invasion when 12 countries and more than 150,000 personnel joined together for what would be the largest amphibious invasion in military history.

The National D-Day Memorial, located in Bedford, VA, just hours from the Memorial and Museum, is dedicated to "preserving the lessons and legacy of D-Day" and by doing so "ensures the integrity and security of our nation’s memorial to the valor, fidelity, and sacrifice of the Allied Forces on D-Day, 6 June 1944."

June 6 — D-Day

In 1944, Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy during the opening phase of one of the most significant operations of World War II—D-Day and the start of the Normandy invasion.

While the vast majority of Marines served in the Pacific Theater, a small number were present in Europe, where they contributed in key support roles. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, many Marines stationed in Europe and along the East Coast were reassigned to the Pacific, but select groups remained to support Allied efforts and help protect U.S. Navy ships and installations.

Beginning in 1942, Marines were integrated into Allied planning staffs to provide expertise in amphibious warfare, assisting in preparations for operations such as Torch and Overlord. During the Normandy campaign itself, Marines supported across multiple beaches in roles including prisoner transport, intelligence and imagery documentation, target data collection, and logistical coordination.

Though limited in number, their presence added meaningful value to the broader Allied effort on D-Day. Semper Fidelis. 🇺🇸
