Information and advice about the Heat Advisory, from our colleagues at the Warren County Emergency Management Agency.

HEAT ADVISORY: The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory, effective from 11:00 AM this morning all the way through 10:00 PM Saturday evening, for Warren and many of our neighboring counties. Quoting here from the Advisory statement:

"TIMING...Heat index values of 105 and higher are likely during the late morning through early evening Thursday through Saturday.

HEAT INDEX VALUES...Up to 109 are expected due to temperatures in the upper 90s, and dewpoints in the lower 70s.

IMPACTS...The likely combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will lead to an increased risk of heat-related stress and illness. The very young, the elderly, those without air conditioning, and those participating in strenuous outdoor activities will be the most susceptible. Also, car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes."

THANK YOU to all who were able to attend last night's general membership meeting. We had some new member organizations represented, and put together a list of meeting/training topics for 2018 which included:

Shelter Management and Operations
The Incident Command System (ICS)
Safe Food Handling

We also discussed the proposed Multi Agency Resource Center (MARC) functional exercise, and are trying to confirm a date for late summer or early fall.

Meeting minutes will be going out to all our member organizations today, so please watch for those.

Thanks very much!

Jim Sharp, MPCP
Warren County COAD Chair
