🚨 3 Lives Saved by Coast Guard Crews! 🚨

On November 5th, crews from Air Station Astoria , Station Tillamook Bay, and Station Cape Disappointment braved rough conditions to complete two successful rescues β€” saving three lives. πŸ’ͺ

🌊 Crews responded to a distress call from an offshore sailboat in 8–10 ft seas and winds gusting to 40 knots. Station Tillamook Bay transferred the patient to a lifeboat, and Air Station Astoria airlifted the survivor to shore for medical care.

🚁 Later that night, a MH-60 Jayhawk crew from Air Station Astoria rescued a father and his 5-year-old son near the mouth of the Columbia River after they were reported overdue by a family member. The pair had been clinging to their overturned boat for nearly two-hours in 2–4 ft seas and 30–35 kt winds.

⛑️ These rescues highlight the importance of carrying a VHF radio, filing a float plan and wearing your life jacket. Nobody plans to capsize or go overboard.

Coast Guard crews are always ready when disaster strikes.

Another fantastic rescue by one of our crews last night!

The on-duty flight crew medevaced a woman experiencing a health emergency onboard a cruise ship nearly 120 miles west of Grays Harbor.

At the time, the cruise ship was transiting from Prince Rupert, British Columbia, to San Francisco.

β€œWhile carrying out a critical long-range medical evacuation from a cruise ship, U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Northwest units also stood ready to respond to the threat of a distant tsunami,” said Cmdr. Neal Corbin, commanding officer of the Air Station. β€œTheir ability to answer both calls at once is a powerful testament to the U.S. Coast Guard's unwavering dedication to saving lives and protecting the maritime community.”

The woman was transferred to awaiting EMS back in Astoria.

Bravo Zulu to the aircrew!
