My name is Larry Blocker and I have decided to run for the Fauquier County School Board to represent the Scott District.
First, a little about me and my family. I am a married father of three boys. My wife, Jill, has been an inspiration in just about everything we do as well as starting two successful businesses. We have raised three wonderful boys with two off and married already. Garion in the Navy stationed in Colorado and Tyler local in Haymarket and the Finance Manger for Kia Chantilly. Brayden, our youngest is just about to graduate Kettle Run High School.
We have lived in the Warrenton area since 2017 from nearby Bristow before that. We love the area, the “small town” feel, and the community has been a blessing to us. I am an Army veteran that continues to serve as a program manager for the federal government. I have coached for recreational leagues (soccer, basketball, lacrosse) in the local area for years and continue to assistant coach for Kettle Run Boys Lacrosse.
Second, why am I running. My passion is teaching, coaching, and mentoring. I first went to college many years ago to be a teacher. I chose a different path, but, as fate would have it, every position I have had has been related to training and instructing. As stated above, I have served the nation for years and feel like the School Board is a great way to serve my community now. We have many friends teaching in the school district now and as a coach also, I have seen first hand some of the challenges. Maybe I can help solve some of those challenges in some small way.
In short, the school district (teachers, counselors, training staff, coaches, administration, etc.) have helped our family and my youngest son through a very difficult time and I feel like this may be just one way to return the support they have given us.
