Why does this matter?

Burg Fest is one of the biggest events of the year in downtown Warrensburg, bringing thousands of people together for rides, vendors, food, performances, and more. But for some individuals and families, attending a large community event comes with additional considerations.

The Center for Human Services Mobile Sensory & Accessible Restroom unit helps remove some of those barriers. It includes an adult-sized changing station, something severely lacking in our community and surrounding communities, as well as a private space where caregivers can assist with needs such as administering medication or providing nutrition through a feeding tube.

The unit also includes a sensory space, giving individuals a quieter place to step away from the noise, crowds, lights, and activity of the festival when they need it.

These accommodations can make the difference between leaving an event early, not attending at all, or being able to enjoy the day alongside everyone else.

That’s why Warrensburg Main Street Inc.’s commitment to making Burg Fest more accessible matters.

Inclusion isn’t just making sure everyone is invited. It’s making sure more people have what they need to participate.

We had a great time chatting with Woody on KOKO about the Sensory Garden coming to Hawthorne Park! 🌻💛

We were also joined by special guest Sarah Smidt, who shared a parent’s perspective on why inclusive spaces like this matter so much.

Thank you to Woody and KOKO for giving us the opportunity to share more about this exciting project, and a special thank you to Sarah for sharing her voice and her family’s perspective! 💛

Accessibility can make the difference between being able to participate in a community event and having to miss out.

For some individuals and families, having more space, specialized equipment, privacy, or a quiet place to regulate can make community events more accessible and enjoyable.

That’s why we’re proud to partner with Warrensburg Main Street Inc. to bring the Center for Human Services Mobile Sensory & Accessible Restroom unit to Burg Fest!

Throughout September, we’ll be sharing more about this resource, why it matters, and what makes having it at Burg Fest so special.
