**SCAM ALERT**

A citizen was contacted by unknown males who identified themselves as the Chief of Police and a Sergeant. The phone number was spoofed to appear as though it was coming from the station. The citizen was asked to place a specified amount of money on the front porch where it was picked up by an unknown male.

WPD will never call you for a monetary transaction and surely would not have anyone leave money unattended on their porch. All citations, warrants, etc. are handled through the courts and not at the station.

If you receive any phone calls requesting money, please contact WPD immediately and do not fall victim to this scam.

WPD non-emergency line is 814-723-2700.

Alleged Threats at Beaty Warren Middle School - Press Release
September 17, 2025

On September 16, 2025, at approximately 7:30 PM, the Warren Police Department received information from a concerned parent regarding an alleged threat made earlier that morning in the Beaty Warren Middle School cafeteria during breakfast. An investigation was immediately initiated with the assistance and cooperation of the Warren County School District. The investigation involved multiple interviews with students, parents and witnesses. These investigations are thorough and involve many aspects including but not limited to risk assessments, psychological assessments, determining intent, and a student’s access to weapons/firearms. This specific investigation is still ongoing. All steps have been taken to ensure the safety of all students and staff, including student removal.

On today’s date, Warren Police Department officers were on scene at Beaty Warren Middle School at the beginning of the school day to continue the investigation and take precautionary measures to ensure safety. While at the school, two additional threats were reported to officers in real time.

One threat involved a student making an alleged comment regarding having a bomb in their backpack. The second threat involved a student making an alleged comment regarding carrying out a school shooting.

Additional investigations have been initiated into both alleged threats made this morning with the assistance and cooperation of the Warren County School District. In both situations, those students have been removed from school. All Warren Police Department and Warren County School District procedures and protocols are being followed pending the outcome of separate investigations.

As we navigate the beginning of a new school year as students, parents, staff and law enforcement, it is critical that we all work together in transparency to ensure the safety of our children. There will be zero tolerance for any threats or acts that jeopardize student safety. When investigations are complete, anything determined a criminal act will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The Warren Police Department, along with all local law enforcement, will continue to work closely with our partners at the Warren County School District in all aspects of school safety.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Warren, PA – July 22, 2025 – The City of Warren is proud to announce the establishment of a new "Safe Exchange Zone," providing residents with a secure and monitored location for child custody exchanges and online transactions. This initiative, a collaborative effort between the Warren Police Department and City Council, aims to enhance safety and peace of mind for the community.

The Safe Exchange Zone is located behind the City Building, near the Warren Area Student Union. The area is under continuous surveillance, offering a secure environment for sensitive exchanges.
"The idea for a Safe Exchange Zone came from Sergeant Joe Bees, who approached me with this valuable concept," said City Council Member Phil Gilbert. "I then presented it to City Manager Mike Holtz, and from there, our dedicated city staff, with the crucial support of Police Chief Joe Sproveri and Sergeant Bees, worked diligently to make this a reality. This is a fantastic example of how collaboration between our police department and city government can directly benefit our residents."

The Safe Exchange Zone provides a designated, monitored location for:
• Child Custody Exchanges: Offering a neutral and secure meeting point for parents, reducing potential stress and conflict during custody transfers.
• Online Purchase Transactions: Providing a safe alternative to meeting strangers at private residences, allowing individuals to complete online sales or purchases with greater confidence.

This new resource underscores the City of Warren's commitment to public safety and its proactive approach to addressing community needs. Residents are encouraged to utilize this secure location for their exchanges.
