NOAS exists to inspire, develop, and nurture enduring support & connections for current and former foster youth and those at risk of coming into care. There is an urgent need for foster caregivers in NE Ohio and NOAS is here to support families and children who need our help. We recruit, train and assist potential caregivers who want to make a difference in the life of a child.

💙 Siblings are often each other’s first connection — and sometimes their strongest.

When children enter foster care, they’re already facing tremendous change. Being placed with their brothers and sisters can provide something familiar in an unfamiliar situation — offering comfort, stability, shared history and a sense of belonging.

Keeping siblings together can help children:
🏡 Adjust to a new home
💙 Maintain important family connections
🤝 Feel less alone during a difficult transition
🌱 Build greater stability and security

💙 TBRI® Tip Tuesday

Why can something that seems so small lead to such a BIG reaction?

For a child who has experienced trauma, stress, or instability, the reaction may not be about what just happened. Their brain and body may already be on high alert, making a seemingly small frustration feel much bigger.

This week’s tip: Look beneath the behavior. Instead of asking, “Why are you acting this way?” try asking yourself, “What might my child need right now?”

A calm voice, reassurance, a snack, a drink, movement, or simply a moment to reconnect may help a child regulate before you address the behavior.

Connect first. Correct later. 💙

💙 September is National Kinship Care Month!

Sometimes family is the grandparent, aunt, uncle, sibling, relative—or close family friend—who steps up when a child needs them most.

Kinship caregivers provide something incredibly important: connection, familiarity, stability, and a sense of belonging during a time of uncertainty.

This month, NOAS celebrates the kinship caregivers who open their homes, adjust their lives, and show up every day for children and families.

To all the kinship caregivers in our community—we see you, we appreciate you, and we thank you. 💙
