A big aspect of mutual aid is knowing that in times of need you have neighboring departments coming to assist on significant incidents and supplement your manpower. Another component is camaraderie with those communities creating a sense of trust, even if it’s in a competitive manner. Today, members of Warren Fire took on softball teams from Wing Hospital, Ware Fire, Palmer Fire, Belchertown Fire, and Wilbraham Fire. Your Warren Firefighters had a rough start with a loss in the first round, but came through victorious in the next five rounds taking home the win. A big thanks to the members who stayed back to cover the town while we were out playing!

Update: Fire crews entered the water and recovered a large piece of a canoe. It appears that the canoe had been cut, to be discarded, with power tools and found its way into the river. Based on the cut marks and a search of the area, it does not appear that anyone was occupying the canoe.

There appears to be a broken canoe stuck on a rock in the Quaboag River in the area of Coy Hill and Main Street. If anyone is missing a green canoe please contact dispatch at 413-436-9595.

On behalf of the Warren Fire Department, we extend our most sincere condolences to the Boston Fire Department, and the friends and family of Firefighter Robert Kilduff Jr. who made the ultimate sacrifice during a fire in Dorchester last night. Thank you for your service, your brothers and sisters will take it from here.

Last night, the Boston Fire Department and our entire fire service family suffered a devastating loss with the passing of Rescue 2 firefighter Bobby Kilduff while battling a fire in Dorchester.

Bobby was more than just a firefighter. He was a Marine Corps veteran, a dedicated union brother, a proud Boston firefighter for 24 years, and a man who spent his life serving others. Born in 1972, Bobby responded to thousands of incidents over his career with Rescue Company 2, one of the busiest companies in the city. He understood the danger of this job and faced it head-on every single tour.

But beyond the helmet and turnout gear, Bobby was a father first. He loved his children more than anything in this world. Whether it was family trips to Disney, time spent together, or simply being there for them, his children were his pride and joy.

Bobby also cared deeply about the union and the brotherhood of the fire service, following in the footsteps of his father, who dedicated his own life to the profession before tragically losing his battle with occupational cancer years ago. We pray Bobby is now reunited with his dad and watching over his children, his family, and all of us still answering the call.

This loss is hitting hard. It reminds every firefighter and every family connected to this profession just how dangerous this job truly is. We all know the risks, but sometimes life changes in an instant and brings that reality crashing back home.

Please keep Bobby’s family, friends, fellow firefighters, and the members of Local 718 and the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts in your prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest easy, brother.
You served your city with honor and courage.
You will never be forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Firefighter Andrew Cross of the Morrill, Maine Fire Department, his friends, family, and all of the responders at the Searsmont, Maine explosion and structure fire. We hope for a speedy recovery for the 10 other firefighters that were injured in the explosion.

Sadly, today we offer our thoughts and prayers to the Massachusetts State Police, friends, and family of Trooper Kevin Trainor who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect those who travel our roadways. Rest easy trooper, you will not be forgotten.

The Massachusetts State Police announce the line-of-duty death of Trooper Kevin Trainor, 30, who was senselessly killed this morning by a wrong-way driver.

At the conclusion of his public safety detail shortly before 2 a.m., Trooper Trainor began his commute home. Minutes later, 911 received a call reporting a wrong-way driver traveling South on Route 1 North in Lynnfield. Several dedicated Troopers converged on the area and located the vehicle traveling the wrong way at 2:03 a.m. One minute later, at 2:04 a.m., the vehicle collided with Trooper Trainor’s cruiser.

While nothing will ever repair the pain we feel today, we make a solemn promise to never forget Trooper Trainor and his service to the Commonwealth. Kevin served as a Corrections Officer in Essex County before joining the State Police as a member of the 88th Recruit Training Troop. In his decorated career, he mentored new Troopers as a Field Training Officer or “Trooper Coach,” earned a place on the prestigious Troop Community Action Team, set the standard for professionalism, and patrolled our roads with a singular focus: keeping the people of this Commonwealth safe.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Trooper Trainor’s classmates have shared stories of his genuine care and concern for others. As one person put it, “he was the guy you wanted as your backup.”

Colonel Noble said in his remarks this afternoon, “Make no mistake: Trooper Trainor saved lives this morning. His courage – his commitment to serve the citizens of the Commonwealth and put his life on the line – prevented an even greater tragedy. He will be remembered as a hero.”

We deeply appreciate the outpouring of support from our Governor, the Secretary of Public Safety, and friends in Massachusetts and across the country. We will remember and honor this extraordinary man, son, fiancée, and friend who gave his life for others.

On Monday, May 4, 2026 at approximately 9:50AM, the Warren and Brimfield Ma. Fire Department were both dispatched simultaneously for a smoke investigation on Route 19 in the area of the Warren/Brimfield line. After investigating the area, Warren Chief Lavoie and Brimfield Deputy Chief Donovan located a working brush fire behind residential structures in the 1200 block of Brimfield Road. Immediately, a second alarm was requested as the fire was located on a steep incline and moving up the hillside. Palmer Fire was requested for mutual aid and subsequently a third alarm was requested shortly thereafter due to the challenging terrain and limited access.

Crews worked on scene for nearly 4 hours to control and contain the fire, while the Warren Police Department shut down the roadway for fire operations. Brimfield EMS provided on scene medical standby while Central Mass Sparks Rehab 78 provided food, hydration, and firefighter rehabilitation. West Brookfield Rescue Squad responded to a medical in town while units were committed at the fire.

The cause of the fire was determined to be an outdoor fire. As a reminder, open air burning season has ended as of May 1. Should you have a cooking fire outdoors or utilize open flames outdoors, please consult the weather. Days with low relative humidity, higher winds, and a lack of recent rainfall can result in rapid fire spread.

We are extremely grateful for our mutual aid partners who supported on scene and covering the community.

Today, Training Officers from the Warren Fire Department and the Ware Fire Department came together to coordinate an extensive joint training for members of both departments in Warren. Firefighters practiced search and rescue techniques, firefighter down scenarios, forcible entry as well as several other skills. This was a great training and was received very well by all that participated. It reinforced a great partnership we have with our surrounding mutual aid communities.

Multiple Businesses Impacted After Early Morning Structure Fire

On Saturday, April 18th at 5:52AM the Central Massachusetts Regional Emergency Communication Center began receiving multiple 911 calls reporting black smoke coming from 2162 Main Street. Based on the information reported, mutual aid was requested from Ware. Minutes later, Chief Lavoie arrived on scene confirming a working building fire in an unoccupied multi-unit brick commercial building and requested the second alarm. The bulk of the fire was knocked down within 20 minutes. Mutual Aid was received from Ware Fire Department, Brimfield Ma. Fire Department, and Brookfield Fire Department. National Grid responded and secured gas and electric utilities. Members remained on scene for approximately 4 additional hours to ensure the fire was completely extinguished and assist in investigation, with no injuries reported to fire personnel or civilians. The fire is currently being investigated by Massachusetts State Police Troopers assigned to the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Warren Police Department, and the Warren Fire Department. It is with mixed emotions that we are sharing that full time Firefighter/EMT Colby Kokosa has worked his last shift with the Warren Fire Department. Colby joined the department in October of 2024 and was a great addition to the team. Colby has accepted a job as a federal firefighter at the Watervliet Arsenal in Upstate New York. Colby will work to protect a federal military manufacturing base while providing mutual aid to surrounding communities in the Albany, NY area. We thank Colby for his time here responding to calls both on and off shift. We will truly miss having him on the department but wish him the best success at his new department. Colby is pictured here in the center at his last fire with the Warren Fire Department. With Colby’s departure, FF/EMT Bryce Douglas has been appointed to the position of full time Firefighter/EMT. Bryce joined the department through our Junior Firefighter Program in May of 2023. In that time period, Bryce has worked to obtain his EMT license and attended the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy. Bryce is pictured below in his staff photo. Please join us in congratulating both of these members!
