THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY AND COMMITMENT TO OUR YOUTH!

I want to personally thank Captain Dan Maddock, Deputy Danny Galpin, and the Houston County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Unit for their incredible generosity and continued support of our youth and our community.

The Houston County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Unit generously donated $1,000 to our CHAMPS Program, and Captain Maddock went above and beyond by personally matching that donation with an additional $1,000.

In addition, the Reserve Unit donated another $1,000 to the 2nd Annual Sheriff Cullen Talton Memorial Golf Tournament, which benefits the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes. Once again, Captain Maddock personally matched that donation with an additional $1,000.

That is a combined $4,000 investment in programs that directly benefit young people across Houston County and the State of Georgia.

This is a great example of what makes the Houston County Sheriff’s Office special. The cooperation and collaboration between our divisions, all working toward a common goal of investing in our young people, makes me extremely proud.

Our CHAMPS Program is about much more than a classroom curriculum. It is about helping prepare our students to make good decisions, develop strong character, and become the future leaders of our community. Likewise, the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes have a long-standing mission of providing Georgia’s children with opportunities, guidance, and support for a brighter future.

Captain Maddock, Deputy Galpin, and our Reserve Unit truly exemplify what it means to serve others.

Thank you for your generosity, your commitment to our students and young people, and your continued dedication to the vision and mission of the Houston County Sheriff’s Office.

“WHY DON’T THEY JUST LEAVE?” 💜

It sounds like a simple question. The answer rarely is.

A victim may be afraid of what will happen if they leave. They may have children to protect, no access to money, nowhere safe to go, or have been isolated from the people who could help them. They may have been threatened repeatedly or convinced that no one will believe them.

Leaving an abusive relationship can also be one of the most dangerous times for a victim.

Instead of asking, “Why did they stay?”

Ask, “How can I help?”

Listen. Believe them. Support them. Help them find resources and make a plan to stay safe.

Congratulations to Deputy Kayla Hill and Deputy Dylan Cooper on their graduation from the Basic Law Enforcement Training Course, Session 129, at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC) in Forsyth!

Deputy Hill and Deputy Cooper successfully completed the rigorous 16-week Basic Law Enforcement Training Course and will now join the Houston County Sheriff’s Office Field Operations Bureau, Patrol Division, where they will begin their field training.

A special congratulations to Deputy Cooper, who was recognized by the GPSTC staff for Academic Excellence, achieving the highest overall academic average in Session 129. This is an outstanding accomplishment and a reflection of his hard work and dedication throughout the academy.

I want to personally congratulate Deputy Hill and Deputy Cooper on reaching this important milestone. Choosing a career in law enforcement means accepting the responsibility of serving others with integrity, professionalism, and compassion. I am proud to welcome them to the Patrol Division and look forward to watching them grow and excel in their chosen profession.

Houston County Sheriff’s Office Announces Findings of Flock Safety Internal Audit.

As part of the Houston County Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and the responsible use of law enforcement technology, an internal audit of our use of Flock Safety Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) data was conducted.

As a result of that audit, it was determined that Deputy Sierra Carroll misused ALPR data provided by Flock Safety. On Monday, August 17, 2026, Deputy Carroll was suspended without pay pending termination. The matter has also been referred to the District Attorney’s Office for criminal prosecution.

Deputy Carroll was hired by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office on April 28, 2025, and was assigned to the School Resource Unit as a School Resource Officer.

The public places an incredible amount of trust in the men and women of the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, and I will never take that trust for granted. The misuse of law enforcement resources or technology will not be tolerated. I continue to support the responsible use of Flock Safety technology as a valuable public safety and investigative tool, but with that technology comes a responsibility to use it lawfully and appropriately. When a deputy violates that trust, I will take immediate action and hold them accountable.
