Larry Walker Jr. dedicated the majority of his life to serving others. His impact on Houston County, our community, and the entire State of Georgia cannot be measured. Through his leadership, service, and commitment to making a difference, he touched countless lives and helped shape the community we know today. His legacy will continue to be felt for generations.

The Walker family has meant so much to me, my family, and so many people throughout Houston County and across our state. They are a family that has always been committed to serving others, and their contributions to our community are deeply appreciated and respected.

As we mourn the loss of Larry, let us also celebrate a life well lived—a life dedicated to public service, family, faith, and community. Houston County has lost a true servant leader, and many of us have lost a friend.

Please keep the Walker family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. May God provide them comfort, strength, and peace in the days ahead.

Please keep all of South Georgia in your thoughts as they continue to battle these devastating wildfires. So many families have been affected, facing loss, displacement, and uncertainty during this difficult time.

Please also remember the firefighters and all public safety personnel working around the clock to bring these fires under control. Their courage, strength, and dedication do not go unnoticed, and they deserve our full support as they put themselves on the line to protect others.

Praying for safety, relief, and strength for everyone impacted, and hoping for these fires to be contained soon.

April is National Donate Life Month—a time to raise awareness, honor donors, and encourage life-saving conversations.

At the Houston County Coroner’s Office, our mission goes beyond serving families in their time of loss. Through our partnership with LifeLink and the Georgia Eye Bank, we are also committed to helping save lives through the gift of organ, eye, and tissue donation.

More than 100,000 people across the United States are currently waiting for a transplant. One donor has the potential to save up to eight lives and enhance many more through tissue and eye donation.

We encourage everyone to take time this month to learn more about organ donation, register as a donor, and—most importantly—have a conversation with your loved ones about your wishes. These discussions can make a lasting difference.

Earlier this week coroners from all across Georgia gathered and recognized this month of awareness with our partners with Lifelink and Georgia Eye Bank.

Together, we can honor lives, support families, and give hope to those still waiting.

Early start in Atlanta yesterday morning meeting with our partners at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiner’s Office, alongside Coroner Mark Cox of Lumpkin County and Coroner Kenny Cooper of Barrow County.

We had a great and productive meeting with Ashley Garrish and her team. The partnership between the Georgia Coroners Association and the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office is vital to serving communities across our state.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and here in Houston County, we are truly blessed to have community leaders and organizations working together to spread awareness and educate on the importance of prevention.

Our goal is to encourage community involvement that supports families and helps reduce risk factors—focusing on prevention rather than simply reacting after abuse occurs. By raising awareness and promoting proactive efforts, we can make a lasting difference.

This month serves as a reminder that we all play a role in preventing child abuse and maltreatment. It takes a united community to protect our children and ensure they grow up in safe, supportive environments.

The Houston County Coroner’s Office is committed to doing our part in these prevention efforts and will continue to support initiatives that help protect the well-being of our children.
