Hurricane Season officially runs from June 1st through November 30th, which means:

The good news? NOAA is currently predicting a below-normal Atlantic hurricane season for 2026 due in part to El Niño conditions and increased wind shear. However it only takes ONE storm to make it a very active season for us locally.

A few important reminders as we head into the season:

✔️ Check your generators now, not during the storm
✔️ Review your emergency kits and supplies
✔️ Know multiple ways to receive weather alerts
✔️ Have a family plan for children, seniors, individuals with disabilities, pets, medications, and communication

Today, the Ocean County EMS Coordinators and the Ocean County Office of Emergency Management conducted Special Pathogens Response Training with our partner agencies to enhance preparedness, awareness, and operational readiness for emerging infectious disease incidents and other public health emergencies.

This training focused on maintaining an all-hazards approach to emergency preparedness, ensuring responders are equipped with the knowledge, resources, and coordination necessary to safely and effectively respond to a wide range of incidents. Topics included responder safety, personal protective equipment (PPE), patient management considerations, interagency coordination, and operational best practices.

Preparedness remains a critical component of protecting our communities, responders, healthcare partners, and visitors. Through continued training, collaboration, and planning efforts, we remain committed to strengthening our capabilities and ensuring readiness for whatever challenges may arise.

Summer Preparedness is Underway in Ocean County

As Ocean County enters the busy summer season, the Ocean County EMS Coordinators continue working closely with our partner agencies to ensure preparedness for the many seasonal challenges, planned events, severe weather incidents, and large-scale emergencies that impact our communities each year.

Summer in Ocean County brings increased population levels, tourism, beach activity, festivals, special events, roadway congestion, and heightened demand on emergency services resources. With hurricane season officially beginning on June 1st, continued coordination between EMS, fire services, law enforcement, hospitals, public health, emergency management, and municipal agencies remains critical to ensuring readiness for any potential emergency.

Current preparedness efforts include:

✅ Planned special event and mass gathering coordination
✅ Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) preparedness and surge planning
✅ Severe weather and hurricane response planning
✅ EMS strike team and staging operations coordination
✅ Shelter and evacuation planning support
✅ Communications interoperability testing
✅ Hospital and healthcare facility coordination
✅ Resource management and situational awareness planning
✅ Training exercises and interagency preparedness initiatives

The Ocean County EMS Coordinators encourage all EMS agencies and emergency responders to remain vigilant throughout the summer months and continue sharing information regarding large gatherings, community events, and operational concerns. Through coordination, communication, and preparedness, we can strengthen our countywide response capabilities and ensure the safety of our residents and visitors.

Preparedness is everyone’s responsibility, and together we stand ready for whatever the summer season may bring.

Today we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Memorial Day is more than the start of summer, it is a day of remembrance, reflection, and gratitude for the brave men and women who gave their lives defending our freedoms.

We honor the heroes who never made it home, the families who carry their memory every day, and the legacy of service and sacrifice they leave behind.

May we never forget their courage, dedication, and selfless commitment to this country.
