This week, the CDC approves the recommendation for children 5 to 11 years old be vaccinated against COVID-19 with the Pfizer-BioNTech pediatric vaccine. This CDC recommendation expanded vaccine recommendations to about 28 million children in the United States in this age group and allows providers to begin vaccinating them as soon as possible.

Distribution of pediatric vaccinations across the country started this week, with plans to scale up to full capacity starting the week of November 8th. Vaccines will be available at thousands of pediatric healthcare provider offices, pharmacies, Federally Qualified Health Centers, and more.

The CDC recommends boosters for the Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J COVID-19 vaccines. Eligible recipients include people 65 years and older, 50-64 years with an underlying condition, or 18 years or older who live in long term care settings.

The CDC has authorized eligible individuals to choose which COVID-19 vaccine they receive as a booster shot. Some people may have a preference for the vaccine type that they originally received, and others may prefer to get a different booster. CDC’s recommendations now allow for mixing and matching for booster shots.
