Sometime around midnight Friday night, a Verkada surveillance camera located on Beacham Road near the river access was destroyed.

This camera was purchased using funding from a South Carolina PalmettoPride Litter Enforcement Grant. To be clear, this was not a Flock camera, which has received attention in the news recently. The Town of Ware Shoals does not have any Flock cameras in town.

We placed this camera in the area because we had been experiencing significant problems with people illegally dumping mattresses, furniture, household items, and other trash along Beacham Road near the river. The camera was helping us address this problem and deter illegal dumping.

Unfortunately, someone decided to destroy it. The camera was cut down using what appears to be a Sawzall-type saw, then destroyed and thrown into the woods approximately 25 feet from where it had been installed.

It is extremely disappointing to see something purchased through grant funding and intended to help protect our community destroyed in this manner. As a small town, we work hard to find grants and other funding sources to address problems that our local budget simply cannot handle. Every dollar we receive and every piece of equipment we are able to purchase is intended to make Ware Shoals a better and cleaner place to live.

We will continue working to address illegal dumping and other issues throughout our community, but incidents like this make that job much more difficult.
The Ware Shoals Police Department is actively investigating this incident.

🎃 WE'RE MOVING FORWARD WITH THE WARE SHOALS HALLOWEEN PARADE! 🎃

We have had a great response and continued interest from people wanting to participate, so we have decided to move forward with the Ware Shoals Halloween Parade on Saturday, October 31 at 4:00 PM!

Thank you to everyone who has already reached out and helped us get this off the ground.

We would still love to have more participants! Businesses, churches, organizations, clubs, schools, sports teams, families, and other groups are all welcome.

And you don't have to build a big parade float to participate! Decorated cars, trucks, trailers, golf carts, ATVs, side-by-sides, and other entries are welcome. Dress up, decorate your ride, bring plenty of candy, and come have fun with it!

The parade will begin at Ware Shoals High School, follow our normal parade route through town, and end when participants turn onto Park Street. Participants will then proceed to the Ware Shoals Amphitheater to regroup and make their individual travel arrangements.

If you are interested in participating, please comment below or send us a direct message. We have created a private participants group where we will share additional information, answer questions, coordinate entries, and provide updates as we get closer to Halloween.
