Theres still time to bring plants down to the Library to donate for our Memorial Day Plant Sale!

Please drop them off in front of the red shed this morning so our wonderful volunteers can price and get them ready for Saturday.

And don't miss our Book Sale for an amazing selection of used books, dvds, and audiobooks. Included in the sale are a collection of unique books from the estate of a long-time Wardsboro resident, community member, and Library benefactor.

With paperbacks and near-new hardcovers too, there's something for everyone!

This weekend is our annual Memorial Day Plant Sale!

Saturday, 9am-1pm, find an amazing selection of annuals, perennials, herb, and vegetable starts (including Gilfeather turnips!).

If you would like to dig up and donate plant from your own garden, we have pots on the back porch of the library. Please leave plants (clearly labeled with plant type and color) in front of the red shed in front of the library (look for "drop off here" signs) anytime this week before Friday afternoon. Thank you!

We will also be holding a Book Sale and a Bake Sale and welcome donations. All proceeds from the Plant, Book, and Bake Sales go directly to the Library to support community programming and materials.

Thank you to the Wardsboro GROW Club for organizing this beloved event and to our wonderful community of gardeners for making it possible. See you Saturday!

Green Up Day is this Saturday!

After you've dropped your bags off at the dump, stop by the Library for burgers, hot dogs, and other goodies.

We'll be out under the big tent 12pm-2pm grilling and thanking our wonderful town for keeping our community clean.

Prizes will be awarded for Biggest Thing Found, Weirdest Thing Found, and Most Bags Filled, so take pictures of your Green Up! We are also giving out a free book to each person (no matter the age) who participated in this wonderfully Vermont tradition.

Next week is Library Week!

One of our featured events is a special showing of The Librarians, a documentary about how restrictions on library content are shaping communities on Thursday, April 23 at 5pm.

"From Oscar-nominated Director and Producer Kim A. Snyder ("Death By Numbers," “Newtown,” “Us Kids”) and Executive Producer Sarah Jessica Parker, “The Librarians” takes viewers from Texas to Florida and beyond, where local libraries have become unexpected battlegrounds in a national struggle over parental control, intellectual freedom, and democracy itself. Sparked by the controversial “Krause List” in Texas, which targets 850 books centered on race and LGBTQIA+ stories, the film takes a deep investigative dive into the escalating movement against book banning. The film captures the courage and resilience of the everyday heroes, librarians, as well as concerned parents and students flanking them, who have become first responders in the fight for the freedom to read, standing defiantly against censorship at all costs."

More information can be found on the Library website and the film's website, linked here: thelibrariansfilm.com

Stay for a discussion and refreshments. As always, all programing is free of cost and open to all. See you there!

Looks like we're in for great weather for our Egg and Matzah Hunt this Saturday, April 4 at 12:30. Hopefully the sunny forecast will stick around but we recommend everyone dress for mud and bring your own basket.

Bring the kids for an afternoon of searching to win candy and other prizes. Every kid also gets a free book to take home!

Thank you to all our volunteers who stuffed over 800 eggs and to the volunteers who will be hiding them Saturday morning. For now, enjoy these photos from last year when we had to wear raincoats!

Spring has really sprung! As the first bulbs start popping up and the last snow piles melt, get ready for gardening season with the Wardsboro Library and GROW club.

This Thursday, April 2 at 5:30pm, licensed landscape architect and garden designer Erica Bowman will hold a talk entitled "Creating a Wildflower Meadow." Transform your yard into a wildflower meadow to benefit pollinators, birds, grazing mammals, insects, and the greater ecosystem and learn about the newly developed meadow at Jamaica Village.

And don't forget about our Seed Library! Everyone is welcome to "borrow" seeds to plant this spring. If you can, collect some seeds in the fall and put them back in the library. Have you given up on growing cabbage but still have extra seeds? We're happy to take the donation (of this or any seed) and spread them throughout the community.

Spring is (technically) right around the corner!

While we may still have a while to wait for daffodils, maple sap is running into buckets and tubing across the state. Learn more about the meaning of maple sugaring in Vermont this Saturday, March 21 1pm-2pm at the Library. In his talk "Many Meanings of Maple," Champlain College professor Michael Lange will discuss sugaring enthographically, based on over five years of research among sugarmakers all over the state, to learn what sugaring really means to Vermont. There are still a few spots left so sign up today!

Then, next Saturday March 28 at 12pm, join our Cookbook Club for a maple-themed meal. Bring a dish made with maple syrup to share with your neighbors using a favorite recipe or a new one from cookbooks available at the Library. Please RSVP with your chosen dish.
