Our team joins public safety agencies across our great country in mourning the tragic loss of our brother firefighters in Couer d' Alene yesterday. While we all know the risks we face in what we do for our communities an act like this is beyond comprehension. Rest In Peace Our Brothers.....we have it from here.

At 1034pm on Sunday, April 20, 2025 Wapato Fire Department was dispatched to an unknown type of fire near the City Water Tower North of West 1st Street. Upon arrival crews discovered a stack 500+ apple bins on fire threatening power & communication lines as well as a warehouse belonging to John I. Haas at 500 S. Sitcum Avenue. The power and communication lines were damaged while the warehouse did sustain some heat and smoke damage as well. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and the total amount of the loss is still being determined.

For those of you that may not have already heard the Amber Alert that was activated for a young child here in Wapato on Monday evening was successfully cancelled last night.

Through the dedicated efforts of the entire Wapato Police Department, virtually every law enforcement agency in the Yakima Valley, and members of our community over about a 30 hour window the child was located unharmed and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

We at the Wapato City Fire Department would like to thank everyone agency and person that had a hand in the successful outcome of this incident. In particular for Wapato Police Officer Sandoval and Wapato Police Officer Lounsbury for their keen sense of awareness of their surroundings that led to the locating of the suspect and rescuing of the child. Gentlemen you are to be commended for your dedication, perseverance, and service to your community. It is our distinct honor to work along side you in serving and protecting the citizens of Wapato.

Thanks again and keep up the great work.

Chief Bob Clark

Hayden and AJ, 2 of Wapato City's Fire Cadets, heard of an elderly gentleman in our city that was in need of a ramp for his wheelchair as it was virtually impassible for him to get in and out of his home. So with help from Firefighter Josh Bibey and Chief Bob Clark a ramp was recently built that will give this gentleman a better life. Great Job Guys! This project would not have been made possible without the generous donation of the materials from Ideal Lumber in Toppen*sh. Thank you so very much
