The title of the genealogy presentation on May 28, 2026 is: Understanding the Pros and Cons of the Website Find a Grave, focusing on German Surnames from 1825 to 1925. As always, the meeting is at the Wapakoneta Middle school library at 6pm.

We will be welcoming Kelli Jo Bergheimer back for the April 23, 2026 meeting in the Wapak Middle School library at 6pm. Her topic is "Finding Continuing Genealogical Education."

Auglaize County History is American History

Rachel Barber will be our speaker at the February 26, 2026 (Thursday) meeting of the Auglaize County Genealogical Society at 6:00 in the Library at the Wapakoneta Middle School.
Rachel is a native of Auglaize County, a graduate of Wapakoneta High School and a graduate of Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. This May she will have been the Director of The Auglaize County Historical Museum for 20 years! Rachel is one of the two leads for Auglaize County which has been recognized as an official American 250 – Ohio Community. She continues to be involved in the support and preservation of Auglaize County History in many ways. Rachel is a Board Member of the Armstrong Air & Space Museum and on the Board of the Downtown Wapak Partnership working on the Main Street Program which is an initiative with the National Trust for Historical Preservation.
Please join us. Everyone is welcome and there is no charge.

We will have various Auglaize County books available for sale at the meeting. These funds raised help us continue to offer speakers and programs.

What are you working on this winter?

One of the earliest groups of settlers in the county 1820-1850 were Dutch descendants from the Somerset, New Jersey area. They appear to be following the canal workings as they moved west from New York (Erie canal) to Butler and Montgomery county, then Allen (Auglaize moulton twp.) and then on to northern Ohio, Wabash, Indiana (Wabash canal) and points west.
Names include Van Blaricom, Van Suydam, Van Nortwick, Van Bible. Any comments or information on this period or families are welcome. Linda Klaer

We will be starting the New Year with the meeting on February 26, 2026, at 6 p.m. in the Middle School library. Rachel Barber from the Auglaize County Historical Society will be the guest speaker. "Auglaize County History is American History".

Remember to pay dues for this year.
