Project Rescue of Amazon Youth

Project Rescue of Amazon Youth Project Rescue of Amazon Youth (PRAY) is a safe haven for God’s children of north central Brazil.

In the town of Jacunda, in the state of Para, extreme poverty contributes to severe health and social problems that directly affect the children of this region. Founded in 1999 by caring Kansans, PRAY provides a safe bed, warm meal, soothing bath, loving hand, and healing heart to Amazonian children in tremendous need of basic care. In a house on eight acres, PRAY shelters abused, abandoned and or

phaned children. Because of PRAY, hundreds of boys and girls have been saved from malnourishment, death from disease, as well as physical and sexual abuse. In 2001 PRAY opened a medical clinic to serve the children and people of Jacunda who were living without basic medical care. Over the past decade, PRAY has been a beacon of light in an otherwise darkened corner of the world. The mission has expanded, adding educational and medical facilities for the community and a teen house in the town of Tocantinopolis, where older children of PRAY have better educational opportunities. Project Rescue of Amazon Youth children are healthier, happier, and more prepared for learning. They are loved by caring adults, perhaps for the first time in their young lives. They are introduced to the joy of God's Word and God's Love, something that will stay with and strengthen them forever. Children who were neglected, abused, and even homeless have safety, security, food, spiritual guidance, on site medical care, and people who truly love and care for them. We threw a Halloween party for the children complete with bobbing for apples, home-made costumes (we might be wizards with pipecleaners and hot-glue guns), lots of themed treats, a scavenger hunt, a ghost piniata, and a spiderweb maze! The children had a great time and I think it may have been one of our favorite Halloweens celebrated!

We had fresh cupuaçu and açerola juic in Ver-o-Peso, AÇAI FROYO, successfully ate from street vendors without getting sick and somehow got on the right bus to Jacunda! ;-P We had a great first night at PRAY with the children! It´s good to be home! :-)
