Brandeis Students for Justice in Palestine

Brandeis Students for Justice in Palestine BSJP works to spread awareness about abuses towards the Palestinians by the Israeli state.

We are a diverse group dedicated to spreading awareness about the severe human rights abuses perpetrated towards the Palestinian people today by the State of Israel. We stand in solidarity with the global grassroots movement led by Palestinian activists fighting for the right to live as a people with freedom and dignity in their historic homeland as an integral part of the global struggle against

all forms of oppression. We believe that the Palestinian struggle is only one of a multitude of struggles against white supremacy, misogyny, colonialism, imperialism, homophobia, transmisogyny, and capitalism, and we salute and stand in solidarity with all who fight these struggles. As American activists, we do not believe it is our place to tell people on the ground in Israel-Palestine, and to the Palestinian diaspora, what solution is right for them. However, we believe that any solution must allow both Jews and Palestinians to be able to live with full and equal rights in Israel-Palestine. This is not possible under a state that, by design, privileges Jews over Palestinians. And as is evident today, the Israeli state maintains its power through discriminatory laws towards its Palestinian citizens, direct military occupation of the West Bank and blockade of the Gaza Strip, and by denying Palestinian refugees the right to return to the villages they were expelled from decades before. We follow the lead of Palestinian activists in spreading awareness about daily abuses, and see ourselves as one small part of a mass movement demanding justice.

The University’s accusation of the graffiti as being “anti-Semitic” is shameful and misinformed...this “vandalism” was created on a cube that was designated for “student expression” which begs the question: is the University really condemning vandalism or are they condemning student support for Palestine?"

"These protests are just an interruption in the ‘stability’ of continuous oppression of Palestinian livelihood. The power imbalance between occupied Palestine and Israel, which has the 16th largest military in the world and the backing of the world’s most powerful country, is largely overlooked in American, European, and Israeli media outlets. Israel, after only existing as a nation for 70 years, has enjoyed the ongoing support of major world ‘superpowers’ despite repeated confirmation of human rights violations and grossly undemocratic governance...Israel’s record of institutional oppression, military aggression, and human rights violations against Palestinians since gaining statehood has created the conditions which necessitate self-defense. South Africa’s apartheid, European colonialism across the Global South, and fascist governments elsewhere have the same root: white supremacy. "

"When in 1977, the United Nations passed the resolution inaugurating the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people, it was asserting the recognition that injustice and gross human rights violations were being perpetrated in Palestine. In the same period, the UN took a strong stand against apartheid; and over the years, an international consensus was built, which helped to bring an end to this iniquitous system. But we know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians; without the resolution of conflicts in East Timor, the Sudan and other parts of the world.
