How can the arts contribute to a shared understanding of history? On Tuesday, April 9, two artist-led programs in the Festival of the Arts commemorate the Holocaust.

4 pm, Rapaporte Treasure Hall, Brandeis Library | Photography and Social Justice: Judy Glickman Lauder.

Philanthropist, humanitarian, and photographer Judy Glickman Lauder has been photographing Holocaust sites throughout Europe since the late 1980s, and her work is held in prestigious institutions around the world. In this talk moderated by Lisa Fishbayn Joffe, director of the Hadassah-Brandeis Institute, Glickman Lauder will discuss what photography teaches us about social justice and resilience.

7-8:30 p.m., Sherman Function Hall, Hassenfeld Conference Center | Day of Remembrance: part one (part two is Wednesday, 10 am - 5 pm)

This two-day series of events is an opportunity to reclaim the memory of people who died in the Jungfernhof concentration camp in Riga, Latvia, as well as the history of unmarked graves in the Waltham area. Directed by Karen Frostig, Women’s Studies Research Center scholar and professor of art, Lesley University.

Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy stellar performances by folk and acoustic ensembles from around New England at the Brandeis Folk Fest on Sunday, April 7, from 11 am-4 pm in Fellows Garden (next to Shapiro Campus Center).

Folk Fest artist Pamela Means says, "I've been compared to Tracy Chapman and Ani DiFranco or a cross between Suzanne Vega and Jimi Hendrix. And heir to the legacy of Nina Simone. But, really, I'm just me."

We think that's true of all our artists: rich in shared legacy, completely authentic.

Adding to the mix is the Create@Brandeis Craft Market, where Brandeis students and staff will be selling their handmade jewelry, clothing, artwork, and more.

More info on the artists at the link below. Part of the Super Sunday festivities at the Leonard Bernstein Festival of the Creative Arts, with FREE performances and activities all afternoon.
